According to this

You're going to pay around the £500 mark for a decent 42" "fullHD" set anyway so you might as well get the 4k I suppose. Providing it's got all the inputs you need and a good contrast ratio
Where's your nearest RS? They will always let you demo stuff so you might as well take your favourite blu-ray and head down there
You can get good 40" HDTV's for £300-350, my bro's just bought a Samsung one. Also, taking a blu-ray to try out a 4K TV isn't gonna help much as the max resolution of a blu-ray is 1080.
The only reason at the moment to get into 4k is for gaming, even then it's still
waay too early. You can get half decent 27" 4K monitors for around £500 now but they're recognised as budget and you'd need a monster rig to play them (2x R9-290s in crossfire would get you playable framerates in most common games - but you'd need the expertise and spend about another £1000-1500 on a new PC).
I think 4k blu-rays are to be released this year so you could perhaps buy a new blu-ray player; streaming 4k is gonna be limited and you're gonna need at least a 16mbps broadband speed to be able to stream at 4k. I just don't see the point yet. You're gonna buy a sub-par 4k TV that is gonna be outdated and old by the time 4k becomes commonplace.
I'd just buy a decent 1080 TV and maybe a decent surround system with your change. After the fail of 3D, manufacturers are trying to push new TV's on to us - 4K won't be ready for years yet.
