Raheem Sterling: Man City sign Liverpool winger in £49m deal
Manchester City have signed Liverpool and England forward Raheem Sterling for a fee that could reach £49m.

City will pay an initial £44m for the 20-year-old, making him the most expensive English player ever.

Sterling had asked to leave Anfield and was the subject of two bids from City in June, both of which were rejected.

City boss Manuel Pellegrini described Sterling, who has signed a five-year deal, as "one of the best attacking players in world football".

Sterling, who is only behind Gareth Bale on the list of most expensive British players, will wear the number seven shirt.

Pellegrini added: "He is a young player with outstanding ability, and I am sure the Manchester City fans will be very excited about seeing him in action for the team."

The England international had been under contract at Liverpool until 2017 but turned down a £100,000-a-week deal to extend his five-year stay at Anfield.

Sterling joined Liverpool from QPR in February 2010 for an initial fee of £600,000, and the Loftus Road club will receive 20% of his fee.

Exactly, he probably realised that Villa will sell and it will be another season fighting relegation.

I read that he had a chat with Micah who told him we are the best club in the world and that he had the time of his life with us. Made me sad

So De Bruyne is looking likely, but for £50 million is he worth that much?

I guess nowdays it's the norm to be paying this amount of money, but, i barely remember him from his Chelsea days

Still pissed we paid almost £50 million for Sterling but he's got one in one, i fully expect him to score a minimum of 15 goals this season.

If we buy De Bruyne we will have so many midfielders that Sterling will spend a lot of time on the bench.
He will be lucky to get 15 games never mind 15 goals

We're gonna need to score a whole shitload of goals if we go into the season with the same defence as last term.

Most assists in Europe last season (20), ahead of Messi, Neymar, Ronaldo, Fabregas and anyone else you can think of. Because he got most assists.

Looks as though Jovatic is off.
Pity as he showed occasional flashes of brilliance.
Not frequently enough though and he's seemed to step down rather than up.

A fair summary of his time with us. I think at a team that didn't have somebody of Sergio's quality he may have shone. Looks like Dzeko may also be off. I wouldn't be surprised to start the season with Sergio and Bony as the only senior strikers at the club. Even without James "false nine" Milner

Sterling can play through the middle as well. Last season we were better with only one out and out striker and Yaya or Silva (or Sterling now) behind. I'm not really worried about our attacking options at the moment, more concerned about getting a few more in at the back.

Looked like a weak fucker to me tbh. Another one who didn;t look interested often enough and went hiding. Won't be missed by me.

Bojinov mk2.

we need defenders, not strikers.
if we ship jojo out, we either bring initchyatcho up, or need a major striker.
but like bastard said in 't'other thread our full back are pants.(not zaba obviously), but the other 3..
vinny was not at his best, mangala well he could come good, or he probs will be shite..

2 kids in today with no experience .
gophie and durham were onto something today, saying us as fans need to accept the expectations of theowners..
that being to dominate football.
win the cl and prem and establish our brand..
were happy for domestic victory, because we have never had it for 40 odd years, but we have to believe that we can get to that point like real, not getting beat 4-1 off the cunts..

we need a solid defense, to allow the rest to stroll on..
