If there was a wage cap there would need to be parity in income tax rates or an adjustment in the cap else places like Spain that charge about 20% to foreign players for the first few years would be way more attractive than our socialist utopia and it's 50% rate.

this, essentially.

also parity in living costs etc. seeing as global parity in anything else is impossible, having global wage caps is a bit illusory, and a rather simplistic notion that would be nigh impossible to implement.

Good points about tax, didn't think about that. I'm guessing it would be possible to implement a cap within the EU, since economically and politically there is a central body. The problem would be places like Russia, they'd fuck us over to promote the game in their own country. I'd like to think just being in UEFA would be enough to implement this but they're corrupt as fuck, hence I talk about it on a national/continental level.

it would have to be global, no two ways about it. european football would suffer if players could fuck off to america, russia or wherever to earn more.

In an ideal world yes. If those millionaire footballers want to go play in Somalia why should we stop them?

Liverpool accused over Suarez

Liverpool have been accused by equality campaigners of "critically undermining" the fight against racism in football with their support for Luis Suarez.

The Uruguay striker was banned for eight games for racially abusing Manchester United defender Patrice Evra during the two sides' Barclays Premier League clash at Anfield in October. Though the club decided against an appeal, they have repeatedly made clear their dissatisfaction with the guilty verdict.

Suarez compounded the problem by refusing to shake Evra's hand ahead of the return fixture on February 11, and an open letter from local and national black leaders has called on the club and player to apologise to Evra.

Both Liverpool and Suarez apologised for the handshake incident and Suarez issued a public apology five days after the Football Association released their written judgement on the case, though he has never apologised directly to Evra in a public forum.

The letter, displayed in full on the National Black Police Association (NBPA) website, read: "LFC actions, in vehemently rejecting the findings of the FA inquiry, their public displays of support for a player found guilty of racist abuse and his subsequent refusal to shake the hand of Evra at a recent game is completely unacceptable.

"These actions we believe could be considered as inciting racial intolerance.

"Whilst the subsequent apologies for the failure to engage with the traditions of a pre-game handshake are to be welcomed, there remains deep concern about LFC's absolute refusal to accept the findings of the FA's investigation.

"As such these apologies fail to meet the test of genuine remorse and understanding. This is further negated by LFC's failure to apologise for racism either through the club or Suarez.

"Neither have LFC recognised or acknowledged the consequent damage to race relations resulting from their actions and recognised by many people of all races across the country. As a result efforts to combat racism in football and the wider society in general have been critically undermined."

The open letter is signed by members of the Liverpool Black Leadership Forum, Merseyside TUC, North West United Against Facism, the Society of Black Lawyers and the NBPA, among others.

I forgot about that handball. This guy has a long repertoire of cheating. He is an outstanding footballer but a cheat, very disappointing. He is all that is wrong with the game.

Kenny Dalglish has to sort it out but he is another who has Wengers inability to see bad in his players and Ferguson's blind arrogance even in the face of facts. King Kenny is doing a decent job results wise right now but at the expense of any shred of respect for those outside of liverpool.

tbf i've found myself warming to fergie over the past 5 or so years. always honest about his sides performances, and pretty much spot on when it comes to other clubs. also, he's learnt to shut his mouth up about us after the noisey neighbour stuff came back to bite him on his arse.

fergie

Although I will admit that ferguson has been better recently in terms of being able to respect and admire City players and ability, I will never 'come round' to him.

He's No Gary Neville that's for sure. :orcs-gayflag:
