Bolton's Fabrice Muamba remains in a critical condition in intensive care at the London Chest Hospital.

The midfielder, 23, was taken to the heart attack centre at the hospital after collapsing during Saturday's FA Cup quarter-final tie at Tottenham.

A joint statement from the club and hospital on Sunday confirmed: "Fabrice remains anaesthetised in intensive care and will be for at least 24 hours.

"His condition continues to be closely monitored by the cardiac specialists."

Bolton manager Owen Coyle added: "Fabrice's family have asked me to pass on their thanks for the many, many kind messages of support from not only Bolton fans but also fans from clubs across the country and abroad.

"All our thoughts and prayers are for Fabrice and his family at this time. The family would also like to thank the media for respecting their privacy at this time."

Coyle had earlier said: "It's very serious. There's no getting away from that. God willing, he makes it through."

Medics spent six minutes trying to resuscitate the former England under-21 international on the field after he fell to the ground with no other players around him

Been confirmed that he suffered a cardiac arrest during the match yesterday.

I know it was covered in the FA cup thread but I Pray that He comes through this he and his family have my heartfelt best wishes

What minute did this happen in? (I can't check website myself as I am avoiding F1 result) Fair one though for refs to abandon match.

I think the grief thing is a bit overdone in football. I really hope the lad gets better and if I was a Bolton fan I'd probably be up for paying some kind of tribute, but it happens all the time in other walks of life. I'm not quite sure what it has to do with Sergio Ramos. He could save a thousand lives by giving a week's wages to UNICEF.

It's not just Ramos, it's the whole team. And I don't think they're doing it to try to save lives, they're doing it to show some solidarity for a stricken colleague.

It's possible to be cynical about it but I'd rather see it as the nice gesture of solidarity it is regardless.
