Preciado passes away

The newly-appointed Villarreal manager Manolo Preciado has died at the age of 54.

Preciado, 54, passed away during the early hours of Thursday morning after suffering a heart attack, reports Spanish newspaper Marca.

The former Sporting Gijon coach had only just agreed to take over as Villarreal's new boss, with a press conference scheduled for his unveiling on Friday.

Preciado spent six years in charge of Sporting Gijon before parting company with the club ahead of the challenge of achieving promotion at Villarreal, who suffered relegation from La Liga last season.

A statement on Villarreal's website read: "The coach Manuel Preciado died overnight in Valencia as a result of a heart attack.

"The Cantabrian, who had been chosen by Villarreal to lead next season's project, was 54 years old.

"Villarreal want to express their deepest sorrow at the sad loss and want to offer their condolences to his family and all his relatives.''

Sky Sports understand that Barcelona are in advanced talks with Manchester City over youngster Joan Angel Roman.

The 19-year-old midfielder moved to England three years ago when he left Espanyol in a deal worth £1million, following a recommendation from City's Pablo Zabaleta - who spotted his potential during his own time with the club.

But Roman has yet to break into City's first-team squad and Barcelona are now looking to take him back to Catalunya.

Barca sources have confirmed to Sky Sports that talks are at an 'advanced' stage between the two clubs.

The Catalan giants are looking to sign Roman and place him in their B squad.

It is believed new coach Tito Vilanova has prompted the move as he knows him well having seen him progress as a youngster

Awesome signing for Barca that. €14m? Absolute steal, only 23 too - he'll be left back for them and the national side for the next ten years. From Barcelona too. Perfect replacement for the aging Abidal / Adriano. Can't believe Valencia didn't hold out for more.

He's pretty much the only player in my dream team that hasn't disgraced himself.

2-2 in El Classico. Football as it should be played (apart from the diving).

After watching Liverpool v Stoke earlier, this seems like a different sport.

I can tell you it wasn't just rumours, I saw Mancini with my own peepers at the match. I do not know who he was sat next to mind.
