Seems a lifetime ago Joey played for our club, and the whole thing leaves a bad taste in my mouth. He's a thug and a criminal.

Someone earlier said that Gelson is already a better player than Barton ever was for us, that maybe true as he is a much more accomplished and 'all round' player but Barton knocked in plenty of goals for us, may have been our top scorer?

Gelosn will offer a lot more than Joey ever did, he is still improving.

We really saw Newcastle comming on that deal. They must have been the only club to pay him £65k a week on a 4 year deal with that hanging over his head. £5.8 million for him with those court cases in the pipeline. Great bit of business for us.

Lets not forget Sam Alladyce made that deal !

I just get the feeling with some of these young players we bring through we always seem to get the best out of them. Despite being an idiot he was a decent player for us over the years. He leaves and sinks without a trace.

Same thing happened with SWP. We get £21 million plus for him having had the best footballing years of his career, he has just been warming the bench at Chelsea for 3 years and lost his England place (the reason he actually gave for going there)

If he was still at CIty he would be a regular for England on the right wing now.

I can see something similar happening with Johnson, there are lots of rumours doing the rounds thats hes a bit of a prick, got a real attirude problem and is more interested in going out clubbing every night and getting pissed than playing football. There was a worrying drop in his form in the second half of the season. Also when he signed the nexw deal they stuck him on £25k a week, he and his advisors seem to think he is worth much more than this...

Hughes wont stand for it if someone offers barmy money (Like the £12 million reported) for him I can see him being moved out this summer..

Does that mean he'll be heading to Blackburn soon then?

Many have speculated it was Hughes that made them a dirty team though. I think they're a good team, they always seem to do well, I just think they need to take one more step to enable them to battle consistently for a European spot through the league.

Just heard on the news now that the story is Barton has been given a choice, take a 50% pay cut or have his contract terminated. That'd still leave him 30k a week though.

I hate him, I hate him, I hate him.

I do hope he drops the soap. I do hope he gets sent down for the Dabe incident. I do hope he never plays football again. Even Sunday League is too good for that little scroat

What a muppet.

Jailed Joey Barton has refused a £30,000-a-week pay cut from Newcastle United leaving his future at the club in doubt. (Daily Mirror)

Sadly Barton will probably end up quids in on this.

Newcastle will sell him or give him away whilst paying him off in the process then someone like Sunderland will step in and tell the world that their manager is the one to show poor Joey the error of his ways.

Tossers.

i cant believe they signed him whilst he had other charges against him and put nothing in his contract to cover against this.

Barton is trouble. but someone will take a chance on him - Sunderland ? Blackburn ? That's if he still able to play in the prem. FA might have something to say in all this. Wouldn't want him back at city not even for a reduced fee. too much baggage and a bad influence on team mates. Glad he went when he did and glad we got £6M for him.
