I was so pleased for Wayne today when he equalled Sir Bobby's record.
Sir Bob may have played for Utd but he also won the World Cup with England, something
Rwayne will never do!
Added to which Charlton had to score lots of his goals with a heavy ball, boots that were boots, not slippers, on pitches that were mud heaps, not billiard tables, whilst being chopped down by his big brother and other animals. He suffered kicks and tackles that today would warrant 5 match suspensions, not defenders getting yellow cards for looking at Wayne in a slightly odd way.
I never liked Charlton cos he played for them but he must be somewhat miffed that a cosseted big girl has equalled his record.
I would loved to have seen Rooney play against Dave Ewing or Mike Doyle. He would have lasted 5 minutes before he wanted to go back to his Mammy.

Now there's a word I don't use enough, 'cosseted'.

I agree Bert, however it's the game now, and we are better for it. The pitches that is, not rooney.

At the risk of sounding like I'm defending Rooney, at least half the goals I see from that era I think "keeper should've saved that".

If I had to pick one player out of all the current lot who would have thrived back then it would be Rooney. Dirty little hard fucker himself tbfth.
