RIP

Macclesfield Town manager Keith Alexander has died at the age of 53, the club have announced.

Alexander, described by Town as a 'splendid man', passed away after returning home from Tuesday night's match at Notts County.

The thoughts of the League Two club and the entire football world are now with Alexander's family.

A statement from the club said on Wednesday: "It is our sad duty to report that Keith Alexander passed away today after arriving home from Macclesfield Town's game at Notts County last night.

"Keith was a splendid man. He will be sorely missed at the Moss Rose and by everyone involved in football.

"Our thoughts and sympathies are with his family at this very difficult time."

Peterborough director of football Barry Fry, who worked with Alexander at Barnet and London Road, told Sky Sports News: "It is devastating news. You won't find a more dedicated man at any club, non-league or League."

He added: "It is terrible news for everybody in football and everybody who knew Keith because he was a real genuine guy.

He's been ill for a long while. Think he first ran into health problems whilst he was at Lincoln. Has been around League Two for a fair bit like. Always seemed a decent bloke.

okay, you want to die by some undetermined-as-yet means with the words "splendid man" ringing in your ears. perhaps we can get some kind of ninja hooker to whisper it in you ear as she slips the blade between your ribs?

I was thinking more along the lines of dying peacefully in my bed, surrounded by loved ones (all crying, obviously) and for the general consensus to be: "Verily, he was, indeed, a splendid man."
Ninja hookers and blades weren't part of the deal.

'Verily' is a strange name. And who is narrating here Buff?

I don't understand what you mean. If you mean "who would say such a thing", then surely everyone who knew me.
Or are you indulging in pedantry regarding my use of quotation marks?

Way you described your loved ones were gathered, weeping en masse and someone among them became orator in both prophetic and cathartic fashion and looking at your wife, whose name is Verily, explained what an outstanding bloke you were. Who was the man on the grassy knoll?

Ah, I see. It's just the disembodied voice, possibly that of someone like Morgan Freeman, which I imagine will provide the sombre dignity befitting the occasion.

The fact that you re-iterated the 'Verily' as a name thing made me unsure whether you meant it or not.

I've got tears in my eyes thinking about the event. I'm just sorry I'll miss it.

I presumed that he was joking, implying that the voice was actually addressing someone.

there were two gags in my post, admittedly both of Squidge quality, but there was one about usage of the word Verily and the other about a sombre orator, who is implied as not being present but a voice over. It's no one wonder I have as many posts as I do. I need to be better at posting. I need to be funnier and more clear. I could have been a contender, could've been almost anything.

Don't be so harsh on yourself - you're down, but you're not out.

I didn't want to use that phrase, because you are better than him. It did cross my mind though.

EDIT: Go BBC for thinking the same thing.
