The two clubs are playing a friendly on Tuesday night at Maine Road's home ground, Brantingham Road, Chorlton, a mini derby, of sorts. If you're not at the reserves game in Stalyvegas and can't quite wait for the season to kick off, pop down.

Road were founded by a bunch of City fans in the 1950's, still play in the sky blue, have a near-identical badge to our old one, and obviously still carry the name of our former ground. Lots of the regulars are also City season-ticket holders, indeed you might know a couple.

It's only £5 on the gate, £2 for senior citizens, kids are free.

Why were Maine Road actually formed? What was the reason?

I fucking despise FC United. The only club in the world i have more than the rags. What kind of fan fucks off and forms a new club when they get a bit upset with their own? Fucking part timer c*nts.

It wasn't a breakaway club like FCUM, just a gang of pals from Rusholme who started playing for fun in the 50's, as far as i know, they eventually signed up to the Sunday League, then turned to Saturday football in the 70's, now they play in the North West Counties League. Their base was the Maine Road Social Club, hence the name.

I've watched Maine Rd many times. I like the vibe at the NW Counties level - a few of my mates from school played in that league.

Wouldn't go to the FCUM match though - their fans always strike me as twats. Very nearly typed c**ts then btw.

Maine Road are playing Abbey Hey today, a Manchester Derby of sorts. Will be a few City fans in attendance. £5 on the gate, best pies in the region!

I remember when Fleetwood were in North West Counties, always meet a good bunch of people in that league, nice and friendly.

The Conference North is a different story at the moment though.

I saw the derby maine road against fc utd at gigg lane two seasons ago, rodri (who) giggs was playing for fc utd, their fans were a bunch of tossers who even found time to sing anti city songs (get over it) i was a guest of the kitman for fc utd so was in the players lounge afterwards...and can absolutely say with conviction rhodi giggs is a complete and utter arse head....
