Southampton will be relegated from the Championship after being docked 10 points by the Football League.

The penalty comes after the club's parent company went into administration at the start of April.

To clarify, the 10 points will be deducted this season if they get enough points to stay up without the deduction, or next season if they stay in the bottom 3.

I did not know the Football league could do this sort of thing.

Yeah, so they are pretty much relegated unless they can pull off a miracle.

It isn't them getting fucked twice. There was a deadline for which all teams in financial difficulty can put themselves into admin. Prior to the date, points deducted off this season, past the date, deducted off next season. Darlington were the only team to go into admin before the deadline. By the rules, Southampton should have the points deducted off next season (as they went into admin after the deadline). The guarunteed relegation might be a bit out of spite for the way that Southampton blatantly tried to bend the rules, but they certainly ain't being fucked twice. They should start next season with ten points deducted. End of.
