Watching England crash out in the group stages at home would be funny as fuck.

indeed. At least we wouldn't have to go through the qualifying process. Mind you that's not usually england's problem. England's problem usually starts when they get there. Wonder if Ireland or Scotland could actually qualify.

a travel guru on the radio this morning stated that some of the cities listed for matches in Russia are 12 hour train journeys from Moscow and that it cost's £90 for a visa to get into the country in the first place.

I don't think you have to be a travel guru to work that one out

i think the problem may come down more to the fact that there would be so many games played in entirely different time zones...

i think the problem may come down to the fact that russia is a shithole with institutionalised corruption, racism and hooliganism problems

although tbf they had fifa at 'institutionalised corruption'

Massive generalisation. Been to much of Russia? I am not saying that there isn't plenty of what you said however Russia is a big place, don't tar the entire nation with the one pink brush.

I think it's fairly obvious what my point was, England's problems with hooliganism and racism are on a much smaller scale than Russia. We don't have the manager of a premiership team openly saying he can't sign black players and we don't have banners in premiership stadiums thanking foreign teams for signing black players from us complete with pictures of bananas.

english hoolies are still alive and well, they just seem to be banned from a lot of grounds. instead they, if the last episode of "coppers" is to be believed, turn out for EDL rallies instead. there's less overt racism, but then if you look at the stop and search ratio it's still alive and kicking.

the racism is arguably a problem in most if not all of the bidding countries tbf.

I'm in Leeds looking after my mum so for all I know or care they could have been throwing a wild BDSM scat fetish orgy in my room in Manchester. I just find it entertaining that the tiny scuffle at St Andrews last night is being talked up as a negative for our bid when Russia's problem with hooliganism resembles ours from the 80s and racism is openly tolerated in certain situations.

Spain and Italy are obviously terrible for it as well. You obviously don't need to tell me about racism still existing in England because I'm me but it's nice cosy behind the scenes racism, which in FIFA terms is better because it means it doesn't exist. Horrible racist banners and monkey chants are harder to sweep under the rug.
