Apparently the 50% tax rate means we are paying over the odds in wages to be competitive, it's a lot lower on the continent.
Another one to thank Gordon for.

Its not lower in Spain 47% from 63K€ per year + 3% for everthing over 100K€, unless you´re not from spain and then its 25% for 5 years, same for moving to the UK though as a non resident to attract people from outside.

Spanish clubs pay the taxes by the way and offer net salaries, hence why johnny foriegner get the boot whatever after 5 years at Barca or Madrid!

Like Ronaldhino and Etoó for example!

The actual debts are rather higher than the club expected....

442 Mio Euros net.
Auto translated from this german site

Quote:
Spain's football champions FC Barcelona lies deep in the red than previously known. An audit revealed that the net debt amounted to around € 442 million, said in charge of Finance Vice President Javier Faus on Tuesday. The previous club leadership under president Joan Laporta had reported for the previous season, a net profit of € 11.1 million in the balance sheet. In reality, however, there was a loss of 77.1 million euros given.

The numbers do not tip at the club Laporta, "reflect the actual image of the club against," said Faus. He ruled out however, that the balance was fined and also avoided any criticism of his predecessors. Common ground, however, that Barça the highest debt in its history vitiated. The Bruttofehlbetrag lies with 552 million euros. However, the club will reportedly spend up to € 45 million for national player Cesc Fábregas of Arsenal.

Just two weeks ago Faus had agreed that the Club World Footballer Lionel Messi was economically wounded. "The situation is more serious than we had anticipated," he said. FC Barcelona had called in May for € 40 million striker David Villa from Valencia. Yaya Touré That was at Manchester City (24 million €) and Dmitri Tschigrinski at Shakhtar Donetsk (€ 15 million sold).
Air procured Barça with a 155 million euro severe credit.

Under Laporta, the club had spent the previous season, around 100 million euros for new arrivals. Nearly 70 million € devoured the obligation of Sweden Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who could not shine so far. Laporta, whose term had expired in late June, has since gone into politics. As a candidate in the regional elections, he argues for the independence of Catalonia. His successor at Barca was the entrepreneur Sandro Rosell.

Whilst I cant see them going under quickly and still lower debts than the Rags, they do need to be careful. With unemployment still around 20% in Spain, I expect there will be a few socios (Season ticket holder) who wont be able to renew their seats.

On the bright side, there are still plenty of tourists that will make up the numbers!

It must be a concern though considering their achievements over the last few years. If they were to exit the CL early this season, it could put a lot of strain on them!

i'd much rather see real get the fucking boot put into them than barca.

although we could always offer to help them out of a financial hole in return for messi...

Best football stadium in the world, no question. It must be weird for Barca supporters to put up with all the tourists each match. Fuck they are rabid for their football Barca supporters, those fuckers live and breathe it, honest. Impressive.
