semi finals, the run to the quarters is relatively straightforward (and yes, i have checked my wallchart and done all the calculations)

the quarters will be tough and then we get one of the big guns in the semi

England's 2010 World Cup campaign is about to kick off, I am sure you all want to win it however in reality, where do you actually believe you will finish?

My opinion is that this is the best England side I have seen in my lifetime but were Rooney to get injured early, you will not get a sniff of the final (or semi), he is paramount to the cause.

Really?? I think we have 1 maybe 2 world class players at most - Rooney and maybe Gerrard - but he has not played well in a white shirt for ages. Lucky if we get passed the QFs

I still think our best chance of winning a tournament was the Euros two years ago. Most of the key players were the right kind of age and they're all getting on a bit now (apart from Rooney). Also Terry and Rio were both playing and on form.

We might have half a chance this year if Capello played Hart, but with either James or Green in goal it's never gonna happen/

Considering you couldn't even qualify I find this ridiculous. The Euro prior to that England lost on on penalties to Portugal and saw possibly the worst penalty ever taken by the one and only Darius Vassel and I think Beckham's also was a contender for worst this decade.

And yet two years on with almost the same team lots of people are talking about them as possible world cup winners.

Capello might make the difference, he's a top manager. I haven't seen enough of England to know if they really are genuine contenders.

ON paper it's been our best team in a while IMO. Several key players in the 25-28 yr bracket when footballers are generally at their peak - Gerrard, Lampard, Ferdinand, Terry, A / J Cole.

Agreed with Bert. We had a very strong team.

Platt/Waddle/a young Gascoigne playing behind a top class front two of Lineker & Beardsley was as good as I've seen England going forward in my lifetime.

taken to extra time by the footballing power house that is cameroon. A massive win against Egypt? a huge draw against an Ireland side in their first world cup. A draw against a very shit Holland. erm, were belguim the next massive team? i can't remember that game?

Ireland were fucking awesome though.

edit - just checked, it was belguim, 1-0 after extra time. and cameron were 2-1 up at one point.

England 1-0 up v Platinum Stars.

P Stars have just taken a horrendous penaltu...smashed over the bar, possibly the worst i have ever seen. SWP played a beautiful pass to Gerrard who then set up Defoe for the goal.

Joe Hart has started.

I don't think there any...it's only on Sky Sports News.

They've just cut to the adverts during the first half.
