Anyone care to explain how the heck he kicked this third goal? Technically as difficult as it gets. at 1:56m here. The reverse angle highlights show you hard it was. Why I love football.

Thinking of going to this World Cup thing with Thomas Cook for the Algeria game.

Fabio Capello is confident that Gareth Barry will recover from injury to go to the World Cup, and has played down worries over Wayne Rooney's fitness.

Barry was included in the England manager's provisional squad despite picking up an ankle problem whilst in action for Manchester City against Tottenham at the start of May.

There were fears that Barry might miss the World Cup but Capello has now issued an upbeat bulletin on the midfielder's progress following tests earlier this week.

Capello will not make a decision on Barry until England's final 23-man party has to be announced next Tuesday but he expects the 29-year-old to be fit and available.

"Yes, we analysed his ankle two days ago and he is fine," Capello told Sky Italia.

"The recovery time is shorter than we thought.

"We are going to decide next week. We are very confident."

I'd rather he not go tbh, Last thing we want is a crocked Gareth a month before the new season.

Police say two hotel workers stole money from members of Colombia's football team, who are in South Africa for their friendly against the World Cup hosts yesterday.

Eugene Opperman, a police spokesman, said the Colombian players' rooms were cleaned while they were training on Tuesday, and when they returned they discovered an undisclosed amount of cash had been taken. Opperman said two employees appeared in court yesterday on theft charges. A third, who had also been arrested, was later released.

The incident occurred at the same northern Johannesburg hotel where Slovenia will be based during the World Cup. South Africa beat Colombia 2-1 yesterday in its first game at Soccer City, the main World Cup stadium.

The US State Department, meanwhile, has issued a travel alert to any citizens living in South Africa or travelling there for the World Cup, due to the risk of terrorism and crime.

"There is a heightened risk that extremist groups will conduct terrorist acts within South Africa in the near future," the department said in an alert yesterday. "While a number of terrorist threats against the World Cup in South Africa have appeared in the media in recent weeks and months, the US government has no information on any specific, credible threat of attack that any individual or group is planning to coincide with the tournament."

The State Department said it would make any information public on any such "specific and credible threat".

US citizens were advised to keep car doors and windows locked while driving and not to leave valuables in plain view or to wear expensive jewellery. The alert said public transportation is "poorly developed" and advised using rental cars or private transport instead. And when stopping at intersections at night or in isolated areas, it suggested leaving room for a "quick exit".

and so it begins.

I'll be devastated if Adam Johnson doesn't go. He is certainly more talented than Walcott and Lennon both. Joe Cole is brilliant, but is way off the form Johnno has picked up recently, he should be one of the first names on the 23 in my opinion. Not that I'm biased or anything. :)

What the fucking fuck if this is true, which is highly unlikely, of course.

Argentina scraped through to the final 32, i wouldn't be all surprised if they won it. Capello has killed the passion for England for me.

Germany get by on that. I think Argentina will try to play well but lack discipline, some shit team will knock them out.
