As most of you have heard, the german international goalkeeper Robert Enke took his life last week, I thought you might be interested in how he was said "farewell" by his club and the german national team at Hannover Stadium.

Only in Germany could you take your life that way. In England you'd die of hyperthermia waiting for the bastard train to turn up.

RIP btw.

That was such a great tribute. Does anyone know yet why he took his life?

he was suffering from depressions since his childhood, had massive fear of failing, lost his 2yo daughter to a heart failure two years ago.
And everytime his career seemed to work out just fine, he got injured. which enlarged his depressions even more.

yip. think he was at a point where he couldnt go on. i dont quite understand the moment though, he and his wive adopted a baby girl just 9 month ago.

maybe it was too hard seeing that girl grow up, always reminding him of his own daughter.

Yeah, that is a good point. But you just can't help thinking, if only he would have seen someone about his problems, this may never have happened.

he's seen lots of psychologists, and even talked to his on his day of death, he was just not able to talk about his feelings.

Which is esapcially sad. But maybe leaves behind a better world of football where the heros or zeros are not only heros and zeros. But real people. With real feelings.
