Yeah, overall I feel the US got much more out of the match than England. It gave the US a chance to see if some of their guys that are on the border line of getting into the squad for the World Cup Qualifiers a chance to prove themselves. Even though the US looked like complete shit the whole game, it was probably half of the first and second teams and showed who deserves to see the field.

Yup exactly. Good luck in the qualifiers mate. ;)

i guess the point was just for capello to get to know the players a bit better... also over 70,000 people paid to go and watch, so pays off a little bit more of wembley.

What a knob

John Terry has declared himself a "big man" for scoring a header just a week after crying solidly for hours after the Champions League final.

Terry returned to action as England captain against the USA in a Welmbley friendly and scored the opener with a header.

This prompted vomit-inducing sycophancy from the BBC and Fleet Street, who are all very excited that the Bionic Man proved his bottle against the might of the United States.

Terry still believes he is a "big man for the big games" despite missing a penalty in the Champions League final and then being inconsolable for hours after Manchester United won the trophy.

"I've shown that I'm a big man - I take full responsibility for what happened in Moscow, but I'm a man for big games," said Terry after the friendly.

He admitted: "If I'm honest this was the last place I wanted to come this week, seeing all the United players. But it's done me a favour. The manager gave me a huge boost when he told me I was going to be captain and hopefully I've repaid him."

Fabio Capello certainly seemed to be imperssed by Terry's leadership qualities, saying: "He's a leader. Normally a leader with Chelsea, and a leader when he plays as captain for the national team. It was important for him to score. He'll go on holiday happy. He played a good game."

So, let me get this right.

End of season light kick about with no European Championship to look forward to against a weakened USA team in front of a half full Wembley is a big game?

We didn't qualify? When did this happen????

I'd wondered what all those weird trailers on the BBC were about.

"I'm supporting Switzerland cos I can yodel.......badly."

They should let England turn up for one evening and take part in a penalty shoot out. Always the highlight of any football tournament for the last 18 years.

Yup, they don't come any bigger than that. Better than that poxy, pointless game for a bit of metal that they had the other day.

Let's just say there were a lot of pictures of McClown with his umbrella on the front covers and not too many complementary words to go with it.

Pretty much as Cloudy said. The press had already torn McClown to pieces as much as they could. There was little else to say. Just toss the last handful of dirt on to the grave and walk away with a tear in their eye.

No, he was on a hiding to nothing from the off. Didn't help when it was made public that Scolari was the FA's first choice, McClown was always second choice.

The media and many fans wanted an English manager, even though there really isn't one out there that you'd say is good enough.
