I hope that the rest of the African teams boycott the event on principle.

I cannot believe this...
When everybody was ballooning about ade wearing a arse shirt, days after he had held his advisor in is arms days before as he died from gunshot wounds.
I never even thought anything about that...so fucking what.

But this is a fucking disgrace, and fifa or whoever should step in and suspend the ACON event .

I think if i had held someone i knew well in my arms as he died in a pool of claret, it would affect me for the rest of my life.
The togo team im sure will be the same..How in the blue hell could they have played on after that...

Grrrr this has fucking narked me proper.....Bang out of order.

I read somewhere that the Togo FA are suing the the African cup of Nations for organizing the tournament in a war zone.

The african Blatter says that the rules must be obeyed and that the togolese government interfered politically, which is against the rules. He has also fined the togolese Federation $50000.
Almost makes Blatter into a decent chap.

CAF said in a statement: "The executive committee and its president renewed their sincere condolences to the families of victims involved in this tragic terrorist attack which happened January 8, 2010.

"The attack was condemned by CAF and also a total support was given to the Togolese team.

"At that time, CAF said they have understood perfectly the decision of players not to participate in the competition.

"Meanwhile, following a decision taken by players to participate in the competition, the Togolese government decided to call back their national team.

"The decision taken by the political authorities is infringing CAF and CAN (African Nations Cup) regulations.

"Therefore, a decision has been taken to suspend the Togo national team for the next two editions of Africa Cup of Nations, with a fine of US$50,000 handed to the Togolese national football association, in conformity with article 78 of Africa Cup of Nations Angola 2010."

Bizzare. Take it out of the compensation you should be paying Togo....

Article 80 says that all this can be excused in the case of Force majeure, ie an unexpected event of great magnitude. Presumably like having people killed when their bus is shot up.

Fifa have refused to comment on the issue. Fucking twats should defend Togo but instead they'd rather consult their legal team first perhaps? Just to make sure they don't say anything politically incorrect.

No. A 'force majeure' is an earthquake or a tsunami or something like that - something huge (or at least it is in regards to EC law). It's very difficult to actually prove that the effects of the 'force majeure' were so significant as to render the 'correct' course of action implausible.

In regards to EC Law this is Africa we are talking about and I would have thought it seriously huge if someone shot 3 of my group on a bus, an attack which went on for some considerable time.

And of course the legal notion of a 'force majeure' does not derive from Europe...
