De Jong didn't. In fact, De Jong was one of the first "megabucks" signings. £18m when we could've got him for £2m in the summer iirc.

You misunderstand; though we paid a bit for him (entirely worth it, and we would have been in a bidding war if we'd waited until the summer) he was a Hughes signing and won't be on (as) silly wages.

Not a bit, a lot. He would have cost us next to nowt the following summer, but we paid over the odds to land him in the January window. I remember at the time thinking we were fucking stupid, but after a slow start he's the first player on my team sheet.

Yes but in summer we'd have been fighting for his signature with every fucker and their dog. It seemed a lot at the time but in retrospect we can agree it was worth it. Anyway it's a moot point, he can't control how much we paid for him and I think he is the embodiment of many good qualities we appreciate in our footballers and has the makings of a hero if he sticks around to help us win some trophies.

Of the past 20 years, Kinky, Goater, Rosler, White, Quinn and Dunne. Great servants, don't really know how you'd define legend though.

The only other club I look out for, Athletic Bilbao has a few more clear cut cases, for example Joseba Etxeberria; spent 15 years at the club, nearly 100 goals in 450 games and over 50 caps for Spain. When his contract ran out towards the end of his career he played one more season for free as a thank you to the supporters. Top bloke.

Paul Power for me. Especially after he was stood behind me and my Mum in the NatWest bank in Northenden many moons ago.

Was really chuffed for him when he got a Championship medal at Everton.

Probably the only ex City player I have been pleased for to have done well at another club.

Trautmann, Roy Paul, Ken Barnes, Joe Hayes, Alan oakes, Colin Bell , Mike Doyle, Francis lee, Mike Summerbee, Neil Young, Tony Book, Dave Watson, Tommy Booth, Gary Owen , McKenzie, Joe Corrigan, KinKladze, Uwe Rosler, Niall Quinn, then you start to struggle. Some of the newer ones have not been here long enough.
Richard Dunne possibly.

Not Goater, Bert?

I only had a quick scan over but it looks like there aren't any black players in Bert's list.

Just saying :8ball:

My heroes -----not politically correct ones. There are Germans , Georgian, Welsh and Irish.
I don't think there is anyone with ginger hair , or any women either.

Kevin Horlock for sure - believe he played for us right through that roller coaster ride that was Premier League down to Div 2?

Uwe Rosler = class.

Kinkladze = super class.

I also had a soft spot for Andy Morrison.

More recently Kompany is doing all the right things as is De Jong.

All this bollocks over Tevez and Robinho before him has made me think. Is there, or does anyone class ANY current City player as a hero? I'll even open this up to say are there any players from any team that you think are viewed as hero's by their fans?

IMO most of not all modern day footballers don't lend themselves to be labelled hero's. They either whore themselves out to the highest bidder, or let themselves down outside of football The only two I can think of from other clubs perspectives are Scholes and Giggs tbh.

I think the last City player I felt was a hero was SWP, only to be let down when he moved to the chav's. Other than that I'd have to go back to the likes of Goater and Rosler, and my first football hero which was Peter Barnes.

I look at the current squad and although there's more quality and talent than I can ever remember, I don't trust any of them, so in a way I sort of hold them at arms length if you get my drift.

Both of whom have slagged off the shenanigans of Tevez.

from other teams i would say the main person to stick out would be Roy Keane for the scum....

for us,

de jong definately,

kompany definately,

silva has all the qualities to become an all time great,

A johnson has all the qualities as well, but i predict he will want to leave if mancini doesn't play him more often..which would piss me off something awful...

I think if given was here a few years earlier he would have become a hero too. not that he isn't in my eyes.

hart could also do it if he stays for long enough...

Of the current crop ..

Kompany, Nige and Joe have the potential. That is all at the moment though.
If they win the whole thing (Prem/Champions League), scratch potential. Instant legends.
I think that'll be what's the difference between this lot and most other players we've had.

My first hero was MVF, but I don't think he was here (sadly) long enough to warrant legend status. Damn shame.

Someone said at the Bolton match that Uwe has retired from footy and moved back over here, lives in Cheshire somewhere.
