Post subject:  Hero's or Zero's

All this bollocks over Tevez and Robinho before him has made me think. Is there, or does anyone class ANY current City player as a hero? I'll even open this up to say are there any players from any team that you think are viewed as hero's by their fans?

IMO most of not all modern day footballers don't lend themselves to be labelled hero's. They either whore themselves out to the highest bidder, or let themselves down outside of football The only two I can think of from other clubs perspectives are Scholes and Giggs tbh.

I think the last City player I felt was a hero was SWP, only to be let down when he moved to the chav's. Other than that I'd have to go back to the likes of Goater and Rosler, and my first football hero which was Peter Barnes.

I look at the current squad and although there's more quality and talent than I can ever remember, I don't trust any of them, so in a way I sort of hold them at arms length if you get my drift.

I trust Kompany and Silva

I definitely think there's a time element to it, they need to stick around for a few seasons through thick and thin IMO.

I think the core of the chav team has been there 6-10 years (Cech, Terry, Lampard and Drogba). Giggs and Scholes have spent their entire careers at Utd. Newcastle have got a few decent players who could have easily moved to Premier League clubs but stayed when they were in the Championship.

There are definitely a few of ours that will fall into the hero category if they're still around in 4-5 years time.

At other clubs, i reckon you'd have to include Gerrard as a Liverpool hero, and maybe Terry as a Chelsea one.

Both flirted with leaving, although I can see that many would still view them as hero's.

agreeance, i'd leave them off the list as well. disloyalty does not a hero make.

Yeah, I think their own clubs fans will view them as such.

Carragher too?

Tim Cahill at Everton?

For City, Dunne was my last one. All time ones = Dickov, just for that goal, Benarbia for a season of genius, and Kevin Horlock. Just because I always loved him.

IMO he's the only dipper that fits the hero bill.

Scored a penalty against them in his testimonial because it had "always been his dream" to score for Everton against Liverpool.

None of the current team have been around long enough to be called a hero.

Dunne, Quinn and The Goat are all heroes to me. From my childhood, Colin Bell, Gary Owen, Peter Barnes, Joe Corrigan etc etc etc as well.

None of the current lot imo. They're the modern footballer - all of them nice enough blokes I don't doubt, but they're all mercenary to go with it. Not many city fans can say with hand on heart that it was anything other than money that attracted the likes of Silva, Toure, Tevez, Balotelli et al to the club. When/if everything goes tits up for us they'll all be trotting off to the next pot of gold.

Tbh looking back over the last 20 years I'd rather most of the players we've had had never pulled the shirt on. There's a handful like Wiekens, Goater, Rosler, Quinn, Horlock, Dunne, Kinky who'll I'll always see as being great servants to the club and hold very fond memories of. does that make them heroes? I don't know. I'm not going to start on zeroes. Could be here all fucking day.

Kompany came before megabucks as did De Jong. Hart will be if he's still in net for us in 10 years time and we've won stuff.

De Jong didn't. In fact, De Jong was one of the first "megabucks" signings. £18m when we could've got him for £2m in the summer iirc.

There's no one currently at the club who has been here long enough to be a hero, although before all the Tevez shananigans He clearly had the potential to be. Given how long the present team stay i'd say Kompany, De Jong, Silva, Johnno and possibly Hart have the potential to be seeing how long they have with us. Goater is probably the last City player to fall under the hero status and Dickov (just For Wembley).
