Meh, it's no big deal, what's all the fuss about? We've been going out to lower league teams for years :D

Can't believe (well, I can but you get my point) that Fergie was being lauded on TalkSport last night for his decision to go and watch Valencia instead of be at the CC game. It's a complete disrespect and surely, for anything other than personal reasons, medical reasons or Yom Kippur it seems, a manager is obliged to attend his teams games?

I'm not excusing last night's woeful effort but....

Let's face facts here, if we'd won the Carling Cup last year the 34 years banner would have to come down at the swamp but in reality we all know it would have been a hollow victory wouldn't it?

The Carling Cup is, and hasn't been for donkeys years, a trophy that anyone takes too seriously.

The top four use it as an opportunity to give squad players an outing. The middle order take it slightly more seriously in the later stages once they're confident about not getting relegated. And the lower teams can't get the fuck out quick enough. Even Albion fielded their reserves last night ffs!

It is a moribund tournament and need consigning to the history books.

I feel the same, completely meh. It would only hamper us in the other competitions. Nobody can realistically compete in 4 competitions successfully.

No matter what Mancini said he would be well aware that our owners are more interested in improving our image and reputation in Europe by success in the league or Europa than they are about winning a Carling cup just to get the 35 years banner down.

and getting knocked out by west brom reserves really does that

wenger and mourinho were happy to take the cc seriously as it allowed them to win a first trophy, mancini should have done exactly the same

four kids in defence? that's fucking asking for it

Different to us though.
If we won the Carling Cup and finished fifth in the League and fuck all else we'd have been a laughing stock and rightly so.

Mancini is right in that we need to prioritise and our injury list at the moment is long.

What pisses me off, and prolly Squidge too as he went, is that fans are shelling out good money to watch this dirge.
Albion is a short journey from me but I did the sums. Fifty quid for three Europa League games or twenty-two for a Carling Cup match which I don't really care whether we win or lose.
I stayed at home and watched the telly.

It will not matter one bit to our reputation that we got knocked out in the carling cup. Outside of England, and probably in England too, nobody gives a shit about it. Unfortunately success in the Prem and Europe are the only criteria we will be judged by.

If it wasn't for the injuries to Kolarov, Boateng, Bridge, Lescott we would have played a more experienced defence. We will probably still lose against the Chav's though! It just wasn't worth risking the fit players we have imo.
