Mansour takes control of Man City
Manchester City badge

Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour has taken total control of the club after buying former owner Thaksin Shinawatra's remaining 10% of shares.

The former prime minister of Thailand took control of City in 2007, selling to Sheikh Mansour a year later but retaining the stake in the club.

Since Mansour became involved, City have spent almost £200m on players.

They include Carlos Tevez and Gareth Barry, who have helped Mark Hughes' team to fourth in the Premier League.

But after an influx of high-profile signings, City's executive chairman Garry Cook says the club wants to concentrate on developing its youth academy, which has produced players such as Shaun Wright-Phillips and Stephen Ireland.

City have appointed their former academy director Jim Cassell to oversee a new Academy facility in Abu Dhabi.

It is thought Mansour, whose Abu Dhabi United Group owns City, is interested in building a training facility on land around the club's Eastlands Stadium.

That's also reminded me there was talk of having an elephant incorporated into our logo during Frank's reign of error. Thank fuck things have turned out the way they have.

From the official OS:

"Manchester City can confirm that a transaction involving 10% of the shares of Manchester City Football Club Limited has been completed.

The 10per cent of shares, previously owned by Worldwide Investments Limited has now been transferred to ADUG, the wholly owned company of Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, for an undisclosed sum. As a result of the transaction Manchester City Football Club is now 100 per cent owned by His Highness Sheikh Mansour."

So would the 10% "previously owned by Worldwide Investments Limited" have been Thaksin's? I seem to remember something somewhere about Frank wanting to hang on to 10%.

Nevermind. I found this on Sky Sports:

"Sheikh seals City deal
Shinawatra sells up his shareholding

Last updated: 23rd September 2009
Sheikh seals City deal

Sheikh Mansour: 100 per cent City owner

Manchester City have confirmed Sheikh Mansour has completed a 100 per cent buy-out of the club.

Through the Abu Dhabi United Group, Sheikh Mansour gained control of the Eastlands outfit from former Thailand Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra last summer.

Shinawatra had kept a 10 per cent stake but now City have confirmed Mansour has gained control of that as well, giving him full control of affairs at Eastlands.

"As a result of the transaction, Manchester City is now 100 per cent owned by his highness Sheikh Mansour," said a club statement.

Sheikh Mansour has already invested huge sums in the club, sanctioning a British record £32.5million capture of Robinho on the day of his buy-out and spending in excess of £120million on new players this summer.

It is thought he is also keen to use land around City's stadium to build a new training facility."

it was a beauty. sure i've seen a car where someone has that on the bonnet, and it's a reasonably new car, so they chose that over the stars and eagle monstrosity.
