About 2 minutes before the start they were saying could the trainer of Mon Mome be only the second female trainer to win the national ever after Jenny Pitman. That was an omen.

I knew after the first circuit that Black Apalachi wouldn't win. Nobody ever leads from start to finnish in the national. Fell in the lead at fence 22 of 30.

Was starting to look a bit tired as well. Could have recovered from that mistake on another day but still wouldn't have won, I don't think.
