John Tyler’s Grandsons Are Still Alive!

Born in 1790, John Tyler was our 10th President. He took office in 1841 after William Henry Harrison died. And he has two living grandchildren!

Not great-great-great-grandchildren. Their dad was Tyler’s son.

How is this possible? The Tyler men have a habit of having kids very late in life. Lyon Gardiner Tyler, one President Tyler’s 15 kids, was born in 1853. He fathered Lyon Gardiner Tyler Jr. in 1924, and Harrison Ruffin Tyler in 1928.

That's quite mental.

Bundesliga - Bayern's ‘new striker’ stunt backfires

Bayern Munich have angered their fans after a media stunt in which they claimed to be unveiling a new striker backfired.

The German club announced on their website that “a spectacular name” would be signing for the club, with the unveiling to follow in the afternoon.
The news generated a huge wave of excitement from fans on social networking sites to see which superstar striker had been brought to the Allianz Arena.
Fans were able to watch the unveiling on the club’s Facebook page, but were disappointed when they tuned in.
Bayern Munich’s general manager Christian Nerlinger was shown in the video unveiling the new player’s identity, only for users to see their own Facebook profile picture.
The users then saw their own name appear on the back of a Bayern Munich number 8 shirt.
“Dear fans, you probably already noticed, that we did not sign a new player,” a statement on Bayern Munich’s Facebook page read. “This app is for our fans to show the importance of you for our club.”
Within half an hour of the announcement the Bayern Munich explanation had attracted well over 3,000 comments, almost universally negative.
“Failed PR campaign, very, very weak,” said one commenter, Tim Wiedmann.
“You stupid idiots! I’ve sacrificed my lunch break for a bad joke,” added Bunyamin Divarci. “Those responsible must feel the consequences.”

Lol, stay classy.

I read in a few places that they thought it was either Tevez or Berbatov. I wish it really was Tevez :(

Heading in the right direction. Just a hop over the Alps a season or two later when he spits his dummy out and then moves to Milan.
Still some way from Argentina mind.

Just watching Oldham V Chesterfield.

Are Scapuzzi and Mancini unfavoured there now or something or are they back with us?

Mancini is out on loan in Italy somewhere.

Snake bursts after gobbling gator

The predators died in the clash

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/4313978.stm

An unusual clash between a 6-foot (1.8m) alligator and a 13-foot (3.9m) python has left two of the deadliest predators dead in Florida's swamps.

The Burmese python tried to swallow its fearsome rival whole but then exploded.

The remains of the two giant reptiles were found by astonished rangers in the Everglades National Park.

The rangers say the find suggests that non-native Burmese pythons might even challenge alligators' leading position in the food chain in the swamps.

Clearly, if they can kill an alligator they can kill other species
Prof Frank Mazzotti

The python's remains were found with the victim's tail protruding from its burst midsection. The head of the python was missing.

"Encounters like that are almost never seen in the wild... And here we are," Frank Mazzotti, a University of Florida wildlife professor, was quoted as saying by the Associated Press news agency.

"They were probably evenly matched in size. If the python got a good grip on the alligator before the alligator got a good grip on him, he could win," Professor Mazzotti said.

He said the alligator may have clawed at the python's stomach, leading it to burst.

"Clearly, if they can kill an alligator they can kill other species," Prof Mazzotti said.

He said that there had been four known encounters between the two species in the past. In the other cases, the alligator won or the battle was an apparent draw.

Burmese pythons - many of whom have been dumped by their owners - have thrived in the wet and hot climate of Florida's swamps over the past 20 years.

Its quite amusing though. They reckon there are up to 400 of these big feckers there now and apart from the gators, nothing to stop them killing the food change completely.
