Dick Advocaat after Premier League job

In one of those happy coincidences which can shape careers, Dick Advocaat arrives at the City of Manchester stadium seeking a Premier League post just as Manchester City are in the market for a new manager.
Synchronicity is as important as success-spattered CVs when it comes to filling positions at that rarefied level and it may well be that the 60-year-old has timed his arrival in the city to perfection.
The Zenit St Petersburg coach has won championships in three different countries and twice taken the Dutch national team to the finals of major tournaments, but he has always harboured a desire to work in England.
His stock will surely rise further should his players overcome Rangers to win the Uefa Cup tomorrow night. Perhaps that will be enough to persuade Thaksin Shinawatra to make him an offer he can't refuse because, as he makes clear, he won't accept just anything.
"The Premier League will still come," said Advocaat, matter-of-factly. "It has been strange, because I feel I have done well. My first two years at Rangers were good. I've been two-times the coach of Holland, champion in Holland, champion in Scotland and Russia. I don't know why [the offers haven't flooded in].
"After I became the manager of Holland again after Rangers, they wanted to go for the younger men like the [Jurgen] Klinsmanns, the [Marco] Van Bastens, the [Ruud] Gullits.
"Now they look at guys who are 58, 59, 60. You've got [Giovanni] Trapattoni with Ireland at 68. And he has a four-year deal.
"But I will manage in England. Oh yeah, definitely. It will happen. If the right club comes for me.
"Zenit has a new president. He came to me and said he wants to go on with me but I told him it is too early to discuss a new contract."
Wherever he fetches up next, though, it's unlikely that Advocaat will be as feted as he was during his period as the manager of the South Korean team.
He said: "It was unbelievable. You could not walk in the hotel without them jumping on you."
