"Diouf agent drives Blues move"

BOLTON ace El-Hadji Diouf has set his heart on a move to City.

But despite preliminary talks with the striker's agent, the Blues are at this stage thought to be less keen than the striker.

Despite Wanderers great relegation escape, the former Liverpool striker has declared his intention of following pal Nicolas Anelka out of the door at the Reebok.

The controversial 27-year-old, who cost £10m when he moved to Anfield after Senegal's bold showing in the 2002 World Cup, scored one of the two goals as Bolton ended their relegation worries with a 2-0 win over Sunderland at the weekend.

It is understood that his representatives made contact with City Chief Executive Alistair Mackintosh in the past week and were met with a polite but less than effusive 'we'll see' response.

Meanwhile, the pending departure of Sven-Goran Eriksson has thrown all of City's carefully constructed transfer plans into chaos.

Until owner Thaksin Shinawatra makes it clear who will be the boss next season, recruitment is largely on hold though it hasn't stopped agents bombarding the former Thai Prime Minister and his associates with potential targets.

It is unclear who from the football side of the club will assess the merits and worth of those players with the big worry that a new man will want a completely different style of play, and therefore rip up the scouting reports and lengthy wish-list compiled by the current scouting team.

Eriksson's principle attacking target, England ace Peter Crouch may now head for either Villa or Pompey in an £8m summer move.

Left out of the Liverpool squad that beat the Blues 1-0 on Sunday, the Macclesfield-born hitman is unlikely to hang around to see who succeeds Eriksson with whom he struck up a firm understanding and mutual respect during his many appearances and goals for his country.

The Swede was also poised to bid for Aaron Lennon should Spurs decide the England winger is surplus to requirements.

Eriksson was fully prepared to battle Aston Villa and Newcastle for the winger.

The Blues boss has identified the lack of an out-and-out wide right player to mirror Martin Petrov on the left as one of the major gaps in City's armoury and planned to make such a midfielder one of his summer priorities along with a holding player and fresh strikers.

Even Shinawatra agreed that the refurbishment of the side's engine room has to be top of the agenda along with more firepower.

"We need some midfielders... midfielders are the key," he said recently. "We have some good players but we need more."

Although 21-year-old Lennon has played in a large percentage of games at White Hart Lane this season, Spurs insiders believe that boss Juande Ramos may allow him to leave as he bids to turn Tottenham into top four contenders.

The Leeds-born youngster who hails from the same Chapeltown background as Micah Richards, was the first choice of the Blues' boss who was also ready to switch his attention to Wigan's Antonio Valencia.

Latics' boss Steve Bruce, who will need to raise money from summer sales to re-invest in new players, had already warned Eriksson that it would take more than £5m to land the 23-year-old Ecuadorian, who plays his international football with City's Felipe Caicedo.

So far this season the Blues have tried more than half a dozen players on the right flank. Stevie Ireland has played there most often but there have been stints for Darius Vassell, Elano, Kelvin Etuhu, Nery Castillo, Michael Johnson and most recently Benjani!

Do we really need Spit the dog? I don't think he's consistent enough, for the kind of players we should be looking at now.

I think Diouf would be a good signing, if he could control himself and not act like an idiot because i think he proved on Saturday he has got alot of ability. I think if we do get Scolari he will be able to stop his antics.

The guy is a quality player and would compliment Petrov on the right beautifully, but his antics off the field are what I don't like about him. If he comes I'll be happy but if he doesn't then I'm not going to lose sleep over it.

Not too bad of a player, but got an 'Anelka' attitude.

Also with the supposed 'money' we have now, surely we can do better?

God no. I don't see how he'll improve our team, we can do better than him.

I saw this today... I was with a Liverpool fan. It just gave him more laughs to stock up on for me. He better not come, I'd rather see Kevin Phillips come...

Yes he's a cock, so is Drogba, does that stop you liking him bang in goals for us?

It's down to man management, if you get him focused on playing football and worrying less what opposition twunts want to say to him , we have ourselves a very capable and hard working striker/forward.

Absolute no from me.

I don't think he would "bang in the goals" to be honest Benny. There's better out there for us.
