I'm pleased he's going to get to play in a team looking upwards as opposed to one looking downwards and I think he will be in serious first team contention.

To bo honest, everyone in the north-east says 'to be honest' quite a lot to be honest. Obviously it's a dialect thing and some people are worse than others obviously. To be honest, I say 'to be honest' quite a lot more than I say 'obviously', but obviously it'll vary from person to person. I say 'like' the most to be honest.

I can't work out whether it's him or the interviewer but one makes a really irritating noise as well with their mouth. Like chewing with nothing in there.

When people from the North East are talking to me they seem to use the word "c*nt" a lot. As in *shouted down the site* "HAVE YOU HEARD THIS C*NT?!?"

I think it's fair to say he isn't the best at giving interviews.

Incidentally - he's my new favourite player. I'm very easily swayed.

I dunno, I don't think they're any worse than anyone else. Must just be the effect you have on them.

New signings are always my favourite player. I love new signings. Especially when they have a reputation as being exciting.

Then i see them on the pitch and it's bitterly disappointing.

Not this kid though. No siree. He's gonna be the one.

Are you too young to remember Martin Philips?

He's got a long way to go before he can match SWP on that front.

Adam Johnson: I couldn't turn down once-in-a-lifetime Man City

MANCHESTER City completed the only significant purchase in the transfer window when they snapped up Adam Johnson for £7million.

And the England under-21 international admitted that he was given an offer he simply couldn't refuse, when deciding to leave Middlesbrough, the club he joined as a 12 year old.

City hurried the winger through a medical just before the 5pm deadline to enable them to register his papers with the Premier League in time to complete the transfer.

And Johnson revealed his excitement at the move, when he said: "This is a once in a lifetime opportunity that I couldn't turn down.

"I'm ambitious, and Gordon Strachan understood that. He was fantastic from day one, and I'm thankful for that, and forever thankful to Middlesbrough for what they did for me.

"I've been with them since I was 12 so I'll be forever grateful, and I hope they get promoted this season. It's been a tough day leaving there, but it's nice to get signed and I can't wait to get started."

Manager Roberto Mancini insisted that the big outlay for the promising youngster shows the desire of the Eastlands club to invest in the best of British talent, and give them a home-grown heart.

Speaking after the deal was completed, he said: "We are delighted that he has signed for us, because as a club Manchester City are always keen to sign and promote the best of British talent.

"He is already a very good player with fantastic potential, and we are pleased that he chose to join us here."

Mancini may have finally got his man when Johnson arrived from Boro, but he missed out on two deals as the deadline approached.

First, City were denied a work permit for Kenya international midfielder McDonald Mariga, who instead moved to Inter Milan from Parma yesterday, when his £7million move to Manchester broke down.

When that deal failed to materialise yesterday, City swiftly attempted to switch their sights to Real Madrid's Argentina international midfielder Fernando Gago, but even though talks went on right up to the 5pm deadline, they were unable to finalise terms on a £15million switch

The reason I didn't mind losing out on Giggs - they couldn't both play in the team.

I read somewhere earlier on that Strachan wanted us to loan him straight back out?

I havent seen enough of Johnson to comment but does anyone else think that the new rules requiring x number if English players per team may have motivated this move?

This might have had something to do with it. 1st and 4th goals. Quality.

The U21 goal against Ecuador is worth a watch too.

Not sure. I think it probably is. I can see him terrifying premier league defences. A very good buy I reckon.

I think Manchester City will be ok with any rules coming in.

Ned has an English passport, Stephen Ireland came through the youth ranks and under the old restrictions he wouldn't be counted as a foreign player. The same thing would apply to Cunningham. I think Shay and Craig may get away with it as well as they have spent virtually all their playing time in England.

Anyway, I think these rules will be challanged. The African national teams benefit from the players in the top European Leagues and they may not appreciate lots of their players opting to have EU passports. Blatter relies on the support of the African and Asian FAs to keep him in power.
