Hughes eyes Bentley and Friedel
Chris Bailey
7/ 7/2008

CITY boss Mark Hughes is being tipped to bring Brad Friedel and David Bentley from his old club Blackburn.

Hughes has itemised finding an experienced keeper and a right-sided midfielder as his main priority and his former key men at Rovers more than adequately fit the bill.

However, there could be a snag with USA star Friedel who is a close friend of Nabeel Chowdery, the Cheshire businessman said to be interested in buying Rovers.

Spurs, meanwhile, remain favourites to sign Bentley in a £15m deal but they face opposition from Everton and Villa as well as City.

City are at present locked away in a training camp on Austrian-German border where Hughes will be carefully analysing each player before making decisions on their possible roles at the club.

He knows that he has to shift players out before he can bring any more in - a point emphasised by executive chairman Garry Cook before the party headed out.

"You have to balance emotion and economics," said Cook.

Strikers Bernardo Corradi and Georgios Samaras are likely to be the next pair out of the door after the release of Geovanni (Hull), Jihai Sun (Sheffield Utd), Emile Mpenza and Paul Dickov last week.

City will also be looking to off-load £9m hitman Rolando Bianchi before the season starts.

Meanwhile, AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani claims Ronaldinho has rejected a £190,000-a-week offer from City in order to pursue his ambition to play for the Italian giants.

Really not sure about Bentley. Wants a move away 'to play at the highest level', but yet is only being linked with clubs that are in a similar situation to Blackburn.

He's after more money, end of.

I think they all are these days ESM. They can say what they like but ultimately it seems money talks.

I know, just wish one of them would have the bottle to say it. All these players, (Dunne included), that use the 'want to play at the highest level' or 'want to see what direction the club is going in' cards boil my piss big style.

Over the last 5 years or so I think Friedel has been the stand out keeper in the prem. Bentley I can't stand. I would hate him to play for city. Spice boy. Bye bye spiceboy.

Would Friedel come to City to sit on the bench? Maybe Hart is on his way, which would be a real loss. I reckon he's got the makings of a top-class 'keeper and I'd be very sorry to see him go.
