Manchester City boss Mark Hughes is on the brink of a major transfer windfall.

Club owner Thaksin Shinawatra is set to be handed back about £1.3billion frozen by the Thai government.

According to reports in Bangkok, corruption charges levelled against Thaksin when he was on the brink of buying City in a £90m deal last summer could be dropped in the next few weeks.

The committee set up to investigate the former Thai Prime Minister has told the new government all charges against him should be dropped and all assets that were frozen handed back to him.

That will be good news for Hughes, who has already been granted funds of about £50m.

He has drawn up a hitlist that includes Blackburn's David Bentley, Real Zaragoza's Diego Milito, Matteo Ferrari - out of contract at Roma - and Zenit St Petersburg's Andrei Arshavin.

Presumably this has nothing to do with reports* that 4 of Thaksin's lawyers have been jailed.

* Admittedly it appears in the Sunday Express.
