Goes without saying we need another CB
but who would you prefer n terms of price, quality and team we are buying off all rolled into one?

Lescott 22mil?
Upson 15mil?
Hangeland 15mil?

or somebody else?

Personally-Hangeland because:

a) I rate him more than the rest
b) cheaper
c) ^ not giving as much money to the selling club
d) It would weaken Fulham by a lot more than Lescott-Everton, Upson-WHam

what do you think?

Premier league defenders seem a bit overpriced right now, maybe somebody from other league?

I'd actually prefer Bruno Alves, but he is overpriced as well. I think Porto wants 25-30mil(euros) for him.

Hangeland please. Lescott is overpriced, Upson is shite. But he doesnt want to leave London, so may need to look abroad.

do we need a centre back?

I dont think we do...

Yes Dunney had a poor season but if you can recall the 1st half of the season, he was coping with the poor form of Micah Richards so spent half the time covering his mistakes leaving his own position to save the day. The 2nd half was much better and this was due to having a competent partner in defence...
Toure is a decent defender as is Nedum Onouha..

I'd like Ben Mee to get a few games this season and McGivern. Reading something last night about the latter, says he wants to break into the team this season like Evans has down the road.

I'd start with Onouha and Toure, with Dunnie as our back up along with Richards and Kompany.

But if Hughes wants to buy a left footed centre back, it would have to be Lescott or Daniel Agger.

I'm sorry to say it, but Dunnie's days in a Blue shirt are numbered!!!

That's it. I don't think it is Hughes' lack of faith in Dunne or Ned or Kompany, more that he really believes in partnering left and right footed centre backs.

Why name him the Captain?
Doesnt make much sense if he is not going to be playing does it...
I think it will be Dunne and Toure ...

I'm still not convinced he is the captain. Has it been on the OS?

He is still the "Club" Captain, but that doesn't mean he's going to play.

Dunnie looked woeful on Saturday when Toure went off and he couldn't rely on his pace.

I can't beleive i'm saying it, but Ben Haim looked the better of the two in the 2nd half!!!

Actually, what I have seen pre-season Brazilian Telecom Holdrs has been faultless. In fairness I havent seen all of every match, but what I've seen he's been okay.

McGivern played left wing for NI tonight.. if we need a left sided centre back, this could mean he's possibly perfect and a bad choice. Left footed and can defend, but if he's playing left wing, he may have a tendancy to run up the pitch and leave us exposed. PS this is the first time I've ever bad mouthed him.

I know I'm biased as I know the kid personally, but i genuinely think he has the makings of a great prem player. I'm excited for him. Also, I think Aaron hughes is a good shout

Good news.

Hughes strikes me as a good embodiment of journeyman. Surely we have got better?

Look, before I say this, please please don't start a big magic mike-esque thing about me, this is what I was told by McGivern tonight. They are trying to get Garrido out on LOAN to begin, and Ryan has been told he will start every Carling cup game.

Hughes is vastly under rated, he would never make our starting line up now, but he'd be great cover if Dunne left. Hughes > TBH tbh.

Let's hope he starts a good few. :)
