Manchester City after Spurs target

Reports from Spanish sports paper, Marca, have stated that new City boss, Mark Hughes, is close to agreeing a fee with Real Zaragoza striker, Diego Milito.

The fee, believed to be "no more than €8 million" (approximately £6 million), is close to being accepted by the Spanish northeastern club. Marca have stated that the communication between Zaragoza and Manchester City "is at a very advanced stage".

Diego Milito, who turned 29 a couple of weeks ago, has yet to comment on the likely deal. His agent and lawyer, Adrián Faija, however, has gone on record, saying that "Manchester City are the only club to have placed a bid with my clients' employers".

Sources in and around Manchester have said that Hughes turned to Milito after his bid for Blackburn ace, Roque Santa Cruz, was turned down. City bid in the region of £8 million for the 26-year old Paraguayan striker.

I suppose that rules Spurs out of the race for the talented striker. Reports were doing the rounds that we were seriously looking at the Argentine international.

I just hope that the club gets a move on and places a bid in for him now. He'll be one of the bargains of the summer if we can get him ahead of City for only £6 million.

He has a stunning goal to game ratio. We'll soon change that.

From the MuEN.

City go for Diego
MIKE WHALLEY
26/ 6/2008

CITY are making moves to sign Real Zaragoza striker Diego Milito, according to the player's agent.

Adrian Faija said that the Blues are in pole position to buy the Argentina international.

The 29-year-old is set to depart Zaragoza following their relegation from the Primera Liga, and is available for £8million.

He has attracted attention from a host of Premier League club, including Tottenham, thanks to his impressive record in Spain, where he has averaged roughly a goal every two games.

Before that, he flourished in Serie B during a season-and-a-half in Italy with Genoa.

City boss Mark Hughes has been linked with a host of strikers since arriving at the club three weeks ago, and is set to step up his transfer activity in the next seven days.

Faija said: "Manchester City are the only club to have placed a bid with my clients' employers."

Sooooo...is this guy aswell as or instead of Jo?? £8m for a 29 year old seems a tad too much IMO.

Isn't it 8m euros?, I thought that was what I read somewhere. £6.4m ish. Mind you it will soon be £8m if the rate keeps going down. He was only 29 earlier this month. If he had still been 28 then it wouldn't have seemed quite so bad.

Or even 26 or 25, that'd been great.

The euro conversion rate sucks. Costs a fucking fortune for everything in Ibiza now.

Who's this bloke? Another striker? Just what we need. Lets get to double figures in the striking department this season. That's players, not goals.

If all our strikers score just one goal next season we'll be playing Champs league footie for sure.
