Ugly bastard! great goal in Euro 96 though.

Arshavin was superb for Zenit St Petersburg in the Uefa Cup last season, especially in the Final v Rangers.

Is he the one who hit those two long range shots one after the other in the first half against the Dutch? Or am I thinking of someone else?

Wouldn't want Benayoun, and we no longer have any chance of getting Arshavin. We should just show Elano clips of Arshavin and tell him thats how we want him to play.

I think you've got to look at each case separately. Arshavin and Pavlychenko have done well all season in both the Russian league and qualifiers and aren't just one tournament wonders which you can get, Toto Schillachi (sp?) anyone.

David Villa is another case in point, not only has he done well in the Euros, he's had 2 good seasons in Spain so you can understand why people are after him.

Toto Schillaci. I remember him well. I'm surprised you do though, that was a long time ago. I thought you were a young whippersnapper.

Villa looked second rate last night, in fairness he had to try and keep from laughing fits at the Italians diving. So gay.

We're not even mentioned in the Arshaviv rumours now, it's moved onto Chelsea and Arsenal.

Ah well...........

Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp has confirmed his interest in Liverpool's Israel international midfielder Yossi Benayoun.

Benayoun is reportedly frustrated at a lack of opportunities at Anfield, triggering a host of interest from Premier League rivals.

Manchester City's new boss Mark Hughes has been linked with the 28-year-old, but Pompey have now joined the queue for his signature.

Redknapp believes the former Racing Santander man would be a quality addition to his squad, although he is unsure of his availability.

Top player

"Of course I'd like to have someone like Yossi Benayoun," he told Portsmouth's The News.

"He's a top player. I don't know what the chances are of getting him out of Liverpool."

The former West Ham manager is also keen on Peter Crouch but thinks he cannot match the Reds' valuation of the England international.

"It's known I like Crouchie, too. But I think Liverpool want a bit too much money for him," he continued.

"If that's the case then we'll move on to the next option."

Is it me, or is every player we're linked with also wanted by Portsmouth?

That's the problem with fucking around too much, we had a good chance of signing him and Zenit were open to selling him before Euro2008 started. Now every man and his dog has seen what he can do and regardless of the money he will go to a team with a big rep playing CL next season.

Yep, buying a player that's made an impact in a tournament isn't easy and tends to be very expensive.

Wonder what the Spuds would have had to pay for Modric now if they hadn't have done the deal before the Euro's? Bastards.
