Benayoun & Arshavin take the eye 22/06/2008 09:06

Yossi Benayoun could wing his way along the M62, while Andrei Arshavin's stock contiunes to rise.
Lancashire Evening Post

"Benayoun £6m City target"

Liverpool's former West Ham star Yossi Benayoun is a £6m target for Manchester City and Portsmouth.

The winger has been told he will remain a squad player at Liverpool next season but says he still wants to stay at Anfield.

Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp wants Benayoun to put pressure on John Utaka on the right of midfield, the News of the World says.

Manchester City boss Mark Hughes has a minor rebuilding job on his hands at Eastlands and wants Benayoun to add creativity to his midfield.

The Observer

"Arshavin on his way"

Russia's Andrei Arshavin, a target for clubs in England, Spain, France, Germany and Italy, will leave Zenit St Petersburg this summer, according to club coach Dick Advocaat.

Arshavin, who helped Zenit win the league title and Uefa Cup last season, impressed during Russia's final group game against Sweden, scoring in the 2-0 win. Newcastle, Manchester City, Everton and Arsenal are among the clubs reported to be interested in the 27-year-old, who would cost £10m - the fixed price in his contract should he move.

'Andrei has told us that he wishes to change clubs,' Advocaat said. 'Although, at present, in terms of offers received, it is quiet. The situation may well change, though, in the coming days.'

Not sure about Benayoun, he isn't bad, but i wouldn't mind arshavin at all, he looks great on the ball and really smart with what he does with it.

Don't like Benayoun, rather go with the Russian superstar Arshavin.

i agree that benayoun isnt a superstar but he is surely a better option on the right wing than vass, or ireland

Arshavin would probably be better but Benayoun is proven in the premier league and would be a great signing for us. Both please.

Benayoun is class, why would Liverpool let him go? Who cares but I am not one to look a gift horse in the mouth. *avoids direct eye contact with gift horse's mouth*

Sign both Sparks!

Two seasons ago I'd be really worried about a 6 million pound signing....with money to burn (apparently) I'm quite happy to take both on as well

Russia playmaker Andrei Arshavin has told Spanish newspaper AS he has had offers from clubs in England and Germany but admitted "what I really want is to play in the Spanish League, in the Primera Division." (Press Association, 1036 BST)

But Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has told Scolari to forget signing the Portugal midfielder as he is ready to sanction a £20m bid for Russian playmaker Andrei Arshavin. (Daily Star)

Russia's sports minister Vitaly Mutko has said it would be Arshavin's "dream" to play for Barcelona but revealed it was unlikely the Catalans would be able to improve on the Zenit St Petersburg player's £50,000-a-week, plus bonuses, salary. (The Guardian)

--------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't think he'll be joining City.

I don't care who he joins. I just can't wait to hear the chants and songs that will predictably emerge.

I'd take both of these at the club. Two very good players for not too much

Never been a big fan of Benayoun. I feel I've already said too many time that we should try to sign Arshavin, so I won't say it again. But we should. We'd have to outbid a lot of other teams though. I don't mean the fee cuz that's already set at £10 million, but it the wage where we'd have to outbid the others.

Arshavin would be a superb signing, but i wouldn't complain if we got Bentley. That Russian striker looks good to me as well. Was he the one that scored against England?

Pavlyuchenko? Yep, think so. I like the look of him too.

I don't want to sign anyone from the Euro's on the basis of their performance there. It's too risky. Anyone remember Poborsky for the Rags. Had a good Euro 96, Rags signed him and he was shite.

Arshavin and Pavlyuchenko had been attracting plaudits before this tourney.

Still think it would be a bit risky. I dunno. I won't be happy, but I won't judge them until they have a season under their belts.
