Good post, wonder if we'll actually sign two centre-backs though.
I would hope that Zabaleta will start at right back over Richards, certainly until he has a dip in form and then Richards can have his chance.
I also think Elano's off-ski's

That team is bloody brilliant though, have to hope it can gel properly and then we're laughing. The best thing is that I don't think any member of our first eleven is particularily susceptible to injury. How long has it been since that's the case? We may actually manage to field our first choice eleven all at once next season :D

Kompany was known to be quite injury prone in his previous clubs, but apart from that i agree.

Yeah true, but I don't think he's nailed on to start ahead of De Jong in any case.

Rookie mistake though, damn my enthusiasm

I find that I'm having to control my enthusiasm a lot, i keep thinking in my mind that we can win the league and we will do it with ease lol. So I'm thinking sobering thoughts :)

That's just crazy talk. :D

This season, top 6 is the minimum, anything more is a bonus.

I think that first team is a distinct possibility. If Richards gets back to form this season, then realistically you want to be playing him. There's no point signing someone like Maicon who is always going to keep him out the team when realistically, he's one of our best prospects. Similarly, Onuoha wants to be somewhere near the first team. Both will be looking at potential places in the World Cup squad.

Yeah, we should give Richards/Zabaleta until Jnauary to prove they do not need to be replaced, even though I think Richards should return to centre back.

Zabalata has nothing to prove though? He did nothing wrong last season

He did however show himself to be seemingly better as a defensive midfielder than a right back. IF he gets his a*se into gear, I think Richards should be a better defender than Zabs.

It was intentional. I was meaning it in the 'if, and that's a big if' sense.

I think if SWP starts then Richards should be the right back as they have a very good understanding and SWP covers well when Richards bombs forward, if he is not in the side I would play Zabaleta who is more of a cautious full back.
I have to say £ for £ last year Zabs was the best value for money signing....
and other than the FA Cup match, he has been solid.

Zabaleta was good last year, but I wouldn't have said he was outstanding. He should have a good season though.

i think hughes will stick with his 4-2-3-1 formation next season

GK / Given

RB/ Zabaleta
CB/ Kompany
CB/ (new signing... hopefully lescott, mexes, terry, toure etc..)
LB/ Bridge

CM/ De Jong
CM/ Barry

RW/ Tevez
CAM/ Ireland
LW/ Robinho

ST/ Adebayor

thats what id say :)

kills me to have swp on the bench btw :(

We can play many formations now with the players we have, we could go all out attack and stick 4 of our strikers in

- GIVEN -
RICHARDS - KOMPANY - ONUOHA - BRIDGE
- BARRY -
IRELAND - - - ROBINHO
- TEVEZ -
S.CRUZ - ADEBAYOR

We can go 50/50 with 2 DM players in

- GIVEN -
RICHARDS - KOMPANY - ONUOHA - BRIDGE
- DE JONG -
IRELAND - BARRY
- TEVEZ - ADEBAYOR - ROBINHO

Or we could go very defensive and play De Jong, Barry and Kompany/Zabaleta in the midfield with onle 3 of the attcking players

- GIVEN -
RICHARDS - KOMPANY - ONUOHA - BRIDGE
- ZABALETA - DE JONG - BARRY -
- TEVEZ - ADEBAYOR - BELLAMY -

Hughes really will have nowhere to hide next season with us now having more or less 2 first 11's with players like Elano, Wright-Phillips, Petrov, RSC, Bellamy, Johnson, Weiss, Bojinov etc waiting in the wings to cover inurys and tierd players. make or break for Hughes now.

I love that a 4-3-3 is considered 'very defensive'.

I think he would play a 4-3-3 formation. Our strength is goals, and we will try to take adv of that

------------------------ Given --------------------------
---- Richards ------Toure ------Lescott -------- Bridge

------------------- De Jong ----- Barry ------------------

------------------------ Ireland -------------------------
------------ Tevez ---------------------Robhino ---------
-----------------------Adebayour --------------------

Do you think we could sign a top mid to replace De jong? Anyone in mind?

you sir are a footballing retard! Can you honestly tell me what dejong has done wrong in all the time since his arrival. He has been solid, dependable, his passing needs to be a little more direct, rather than simply passing it from side to side, but he is tenacious and provides stability and aggression in midfield, breaking up attacks. Sorry, but imo you are just wrong to start wanting replacements so soon.
