I think Ireland's wasted sat deep in midfield.

I think we'll play a three with De Jong or Zabaleta sat behind Ireland and Barry. I think that's a pretty good three right there.

Yeah, I reckon De Jong will definitely play as a DM, with Barry having a bit more licence as a box-to-box player. I think it'll be pretty much the same formation we play this year. 3 creative players behind a main striker, with the likes of Tevez (if we get him) or Bellamy playing either role depending on the situation. I still expect a main goalscorer up top.

It's essentially the formation that all of the top 3 play.

Chelsea have Anelka, Lampard and Malouda (or Cole when he's fit) behind Drogba, with Essien and Ballack a bit deeper.

Liverpool have Gerrard, Riera and Kuyt behind Torres, with Alonso and Mascherano in DM/CM.

The scum have Rooney, Ronaldo and Giggs/Scholes/Park behind Tevez or Berbetov, with Fletcher and Carrick in front of the back 4.

Barcelona have Henry, Iniesta and Messi behind Eto'o, with Xavi and Toure behind them.

One DM to break up play (De Jong), the other to set up attacks (Barry).

I've seen it. It's the future.

I'm not writing off Dunne. If no centre back is purchased, he'd still be a starter for me. He played his best game in over a year for Ireland at the weekend.

He was outstanding though apparently, don't think saying it was his best game for a year was supposed to be a reflection on how average he's been.

He was really brilliant, especially as he had Sean St Ledger from Preston North End (making his 1st start) as his other CB so had to watch that sapce too.
I've no idea why he couldn't play like that for at least some of the season though, no idea at all.

perhaps a complimentary Kleenex should be placed upon each seat at Eastlands this year?

That's the kind of backs to the wall defending that suits Dunne though isn't it?
When he has to pass the ball, that's when it all goes wrong

Wingbacks? Barry and SWP can bomb forward to get crosses in.
Going forward we'd have 6 players and defending we'd have 6 back with 4 attackers defending from the front. (well, not sure about robinho but the other 3 will do.)

Then whilst playing, could put zabs on for SWP, put zab at RB, lescott to LB and put barry in the middle with NDJ and switch to 433 which seems to be what everyone else has gone for. (One sub, change in formation and voila, back to normal.)

Just an idea, i hate wingbacks but this is the only way i could fit everyone on the pitch who i wanted to be on. It will never happen in reality but its something to think about.

I know what you mean about wanting to start all of these players, but I don't think that formation would work. You've just got to count on at least one of them being injured / suspended at any one time :o

It's not the 90's, and we don't have Terry Venebles in charge. So no.

He had a good season under Sven. I'm pretty sure most would agree. Not exactly backs against the wall all season was it?

We weren't exactly free scoring.
