I've thought for while that a lot of the glow around Modric has been a reflected light from Van de Varts work.

AVB certainly likes a shake-up!

We don't seem to have been linked with anyone useful yet. I'd have liked to see some wide players to give us more options and a CB capable of challenging for a starting place. Having said that, how many times have we been linked with players only to have a signing come out of nowhere.

Has anyone mentioned Scott Sinclair yet? He's supposedly nailed on to come to us for £5m, presumably as a replacement for AJ.

I feel we need a couple of players as both united and in particular the chavs have got new faces, and very decent ones. Chavs are going to be right in there this season, they will be a different force this year and we need a new player or two.

SELL at any cost RSC, and Adebayor ffs.

When we met up at Wembley last year he kept running off and cowering under a tree every time a plane flew overhead.

I had to calm him down by saying "Big metal bird in sky bring heap good medicine Danny."

I'm not overly concerned about the lack of transfer activity. We got 91 points last season, that is a total that will more-than-likely win the league this season.

Chelsea look very good going forward but I think they'll struggle against a team with solid defensive organisation - they can either play expansive football against a weak defence or counter-attack against an attacking team. A team that controls possession should have more fortune against them.

United similarly have strengthened in attack but their defence still is lacking - Rafael, arguably the pick of their right-backs, is a liability, Evra is past his best and keeping two out of Ferdinand, Vidic, Jones, Evans and Smalling fit seems like a fair old challenge for centre-back. They might have strengthened offensively but they weren't short of goals last season. Similarly the centre of midfield is still an area of the pitch where they are notably lacking yet seem resistant to improve. Kagawa and Van Persie are good signings but not the signings that United needed.

We haven't strengthened massively but we also haven't been weakened. If we can look to the future and the seasons ahead rather than just making purchases to compete this season, we should ensure a longer spell at the top. I'd quite like Fellaini to be on the radar as he seems a good long-term replacement for Touré (5 years younger). I can't think of too many other midfielders in that mould. The lack of wingers does seem a minor concern but I get the impression that Mancini wants the full-backs rather than the attacking midfielders to be the guys hugging the side-line.
