What's a technical director?

Not opposed to him being in the coaching set up.

Not really, he knows Hughes from Blackburn.

Don't mind him as a coach, but I'd hate us to go the technical director route. Spurs might be in the CL by now, Newcastle might still be in the PL, and Chelsea might still be champions if they didn't have some idiot interfering with the manager's work.

What does a technical director do? Have we got one at the moment? Sounds like the kind of role the owners might like fill themselves.

Hope Hughes is behind this one. If not, it is a fucking stupid appointment.

Depends on the club, I think. They're supposed to sort out the budget and stuff like that, but I think some of them interfere a lot more than that, even buying and selling players. Also known as a director of football. All you need to know is that Dennis Wise was one at Newcastle.

It will be Hughes for sure. I'm guessing the moment the guy retired Hughes stepped in. He obviously has a great deal of respect for him.

He'll be a player coach to start with. The TD role is still a long way into the future.

It's a Hughes appointment alright.

plenty of shit coaches who have badges..

Hughes knows him well, if he thinks he can assist him at City, then why not? He was an intelligent player, could be useful.

Could do with a hair cut and being told to stop dying it before he joins us.

Vastly experienced at international level, the know how he can impart will help the players like Ireland, Johno, Weiss etc to develop. No substitute for an old head in the camp from my perspective. I'd welcome the guy, very intelligent footballer, you have to be to be playing top flight football at his age.

It won't be Hughes doing this. He sported a bubble perm mullet for years.
