Riise ia quality, shame we couldnt land him but he'd have no reason to come to us. Always liked Riise, good luck to him.

My sentiments exactly. I beginning to believe I was alone in thinking Riise was quality.

Close enough. Nicky Shorey. 27 though. Not so young. Same age as Riise in fact.

Well I have to admit the Russian left back Yuri Zhirkov impressed the hell out of me last night with his attacking play. Not sure of his defensive capability as the Swedes didn't ever get going (zimmer frames sticking in the mud I think).

I know we have been linked with Arsahvin who impressed but for me Zhirkov looks excellent, then again I am only judging the 3 or 4 times I have watched him play. Thoughts?

Can score as well it would seem, A bit pretentious but shows some flair

I am not having a player that when you say his name properly pretty much sounds jerkoff

Best in the business. I we paired him with Claude Nonce we'd have one of the best left sided combinations in the world.

think zhirkov was referred to as the russian ronaldinho last night, is he actually a full back?

Well his wiki entry calls him a winger / attacking wing back. Russia use him in the wing back role so Hiddink thinks so.

He's a left winger normally, which makes sense given the way he plays. If we didn't have Petrov I'd be interested in us signing him.

Emigre - Riise is a good player (Miggs - you really are a know nothing numpty), but I am dead against players who adopt a shoot on sight policy, which he does. He's a latter day Steve Staunton, so I wouldn't have wanted him.

Shimmer - Baines has potential but I don't see a great deal of difference between him and Garrido at the minute.

What about Bridge? If he isn't after first team football with an up and coming club then he truly is a cock.

I think it's something we have lacked for years actually, everyone loves a 30 yard goal, cant remember the last time we scored one from open play? Barton used to attempt but had a 1/30 on target ratio.

I think it's one of the plusses of French, Itie and Spanish leagues.

You need a bit of both IMO, players with the ability to hit the target at long range and good box players. One of the reason we scored so few goals last season was our tendency to over pass the ball and generally fanny about on the edge of the area until we eventually got dispossessed.

Players with the intelligence to do either when required is what we need.

Crouch and Lampard should do the trick then?
