Sylvain Distin has admitted that he could leave Portsmouth if the club fail to strengthen in January.

The FA Cup holders sold Pedro Mendes and Sulley Muntari to Rangers and Inter Milan respectively over the summer, while France international Lassana Diarra has recently been allowed to join Spanish giants Real Madrid.

With the transfer window set reopen in the New Year, further departures have been touted.

Distin is just one of those linked with an exit from Fratton Park and concedes that he must weigh up his options before deciding where his long-term future will lie.

"Since last year a lot of things have changed," he told L'Equipe.

"The club have said that they are waiting until January to announce what direction they want to go in.

"We're nearly there. We will see if the best players that have left will be replaced by players of equal standing or not.

"Once the club have shown what their choice is, I will make mine in consequence."

Reports have suggested that north London duo Arsenal and Tottenham are keen on securing Distin's signature, but the French centre-half insists he has received no formal approach from either club.

"At the moment I'm waiting," he added.

"I've read that I'm moving to Arsenal but neither me, nor my agent, have had any contact at all with them."

I've slagged Distin off a lot but time is a great healer, apparently. What did he really do to us that was that bad? He was honest throughout, he always said he wanted to leave if the club wasn't going forward, and we weren't. He never claimed he was going to sign, he made his intentions perfectly clear, as he now seems to have to done with Portsmouth. It did take the piss when he said he wanted to go and win trophies so he joined Portsmouth. But then he won the FA Cup, so in that sense his move was justified. He was a superb defender for us.

I'd happily have him back at City.

If we get players like Bridge, Distin and the like it will improve our team and get us up near the top 4 where we will be able to attract better players again and once in the top 4 we can try and get the worlds best.....we might tempt 1 or 2 now for silly money but do we want players just coming for the money
