Fernandinho has called on Shakhtar Donetsk to lower the value of his buyout clause, allowing him to speak with Manchester City.

The Brazilian has emerged as a potential summer transfer target for City, but they are reportedly unwilling to match the fee currently being demanded for his services.

Upon signing for Shakhtar, a £40.5million release clause was inserted in Fernandinho's contract.

He claims to have been given assurances that a compromise could be reached if a top club came calling, but has been left disappointed by Shakhtar's reluctance to relax their stance.

Fresh from turning down the offer of a new contract in the Ukraine, the 28-year-old midfielder said: "The day I signed, the club's director guaranteed me that was normal with his players, and that in a transfer, we could negotiate and reach an agreement on the price.

"I trusted them, and I didn't think about the consequences it would bring me in the future.

"My dream is being threatened because of the high valuation."

We've had excellent brazilians over the years. They've played great for 3 months and then lost interest despite costing us near £70m combined.

I admit I've never seen him kick a ball, but even if it was half that buy out price I'd be a bit dubious about paying it for a 28 yr old Brazilian who's spent the past 8 years playing in the Ukraine.

All sounds a bit familiar to be facetious. 'An unmitigated disaster' one punter mused.

sure he could make an impact, if dropped from 40,000 feet.

I also haven't seen him play, but based on what others have said, he sounds like a pretty good player. Apparently dominated Chelsea's midfield in the CL. Gotta agree though that the prospect of paying £20m-odd for a 28 year old isn't particularly appealing. But then we did pay that for Toure and look how that turned out.

This could be very close now, with Shakhtar adding another 2 players to their squad. This morning on TS heard someone saying how great this guy is and along with Navas we will be a force to be reckoned with.
