Johnson hurt in fight at nightclub

Premier League player Michael Johnson was hurt after a nightclub clash with two revellers yesterday.

The Manchester City midfielder, 21, is said to have had a furious head-to-head confrontation with one of two Manchester United fans.

One reveller at the Manchester nightspot said:"It started to turn ugly and there was a clash of heads.

"Michael got a small cut to his head but I don't know about the other blokes.

"It looked as if they had been trying to wind him up and they got ejected." Johnson was allowed to stay and did not need medical attention.



Hours earlier the England under-21 player was an unused substitute in Man City's 2-1 home win over league leaders Chelsea.

A City source said of the bust-up early yesterday: "He'd been getting a lot of abuse and there was an incident.

"It was nothing major and he's not seriously hurt."

Manchester City midfielder Michael Johnson arrested over alleged headbutt on United fan

Manchester City star Michael Johnson has been arrested by police after a United fan claimed he had been headbutted in a nightclub.
Midfielder Johnson was interviewed by Greater Manchester Police after a 22-year-old claimed he had been attacked in 42nd Street in the city's Bootle Street.

Police contacted City after the complaint was made and arranged an appointment for the 22-year-old to attend Grey Mare Lane station, close to Eastlands.

Johnson was then arrested on suspicion of assault causing actual bodily harm and bailed until March 18.
Johnson has been out of action since damaging knee ligaments in training on December 10 last year. The alleged incident happened four days earlier.
It is understood a group of United fans were singing Red Devils songs and one of them approached Johnson.
The fan, also 22, claims he was then headbutted, knocked to the ground and kicked while he was down.
The supporter left the club and stopped a police officer to report the alleged incident.

A spokesman for GMP said: 'Just after 1am on Sunday December 6, 2009, a patrol car was flagged down and an officer was told a man had been assaulted.

Johnson, at training on Monday, is a long way off a recovery
'The 22-year-old reported that he had been assaulted in 42nd Street nightclub. He had a cut to the face but no other injuries.
'A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm and remains on police bail as inquiries continue.'
Two other men are also under investigation but have not been arrested.
The maximum sentence for actual bodily harm (section 47 assault) is five years imprisonment.
Johnson was tipped for the top after coming through the ranks at City but his career has been hampered by injuries.
