Don't feel anything but sympathy for the guy tbh. He might have recovered physically, but it's plainly obvious that he hasn't been able to recover mentally, and lets remember that he's still just 24 now!

He's going to look back on this period of his life with regret, but as a younger player he clearly lacked the mental strength and wisdom to overcome 2 (or was it 3?) huge injuries. He's not the first player who has had a promising career spoiled by injuries and he won't be the last; it's a real shame. Used to love him. He scored a cracking goal against Derby as well IIRC, and whenever he played, Elano performed.

Michael Johnson has said that issues with his mental health contributed to the decline of his Manchester City career, with the midfielder having treatment at the Priory Clinic.

The Guardian revealed on Tuesday that the 24-year-old, once tipped as an England international, had agreed a severance package from his £40,000-a-week contract just before Christmas.

He told the Manchester Evening News: "I have been attending the Priory Clinic for a number of years now with regard to my mental health and would be grateful if I could now be left alone to live the rest of my life. I am more disappointed than anyone, but that's the way it goes."

They do say anti-depressants can cause weight gain. Like GA says, it could be a case of this guy having genuine demons. Or he could have done what 95% of people on here would have done if they were his age and on £40k a week and pissed it up the wall.
