Injury forces David Silva to miss Manchester City's trip to Arsenal
• Influential midfielder faces two weeks out with knee problem
• Mario Balotelli returns to training and could replace Silva

Daniel Taylor The Guardian, Tuesday 4 January 2011 Article history

David Silva, Manchester City's increasingly influential midfielder, is likely to miss the game at Arsenal tomorrow with a knee injury and fears he may be out for up to two weeks.

Silva, the club's player of the month for December, was injured in the 1-0 win over Blackpool on Saturday and, although City are waiting for more tests before deciding whether he can travel to London, sources in Spain have indicated the former Valencia player expects it may be a fortnight before he returns.

City's medical staff are working on the basis that he could be available for the FA Cup tie at Leicester City on Sunday.

Mario Balotelli has returned to training and, although he did not complete a full session yesterday, the Italian is in contention to replace Silva, having missed the Blackpool game because of a sore knee.

Not good, we rely on him a lot, I hope he recovers quickly, we can do without him for the CUP but tomorrow he will be a big miss :-(

Silva is magnificent. Capable of creating something special at any time. Come back soon David.

That's a massive blow.

Player of the month for December - that's 3 in a row for him isn't it?

I'm prolly gonna send him a valentines card this year.

Balotelli also ruled out of the match but could be ok for the Cup game.

I think Milner should get a go behind the striker but I don't know who would go on the left in that scenario.

..............NDJ

......Milner.........Yaya

AJ..........Tevez.......Jo?

I know this much, I think Arsenal supporters right now will be weary of this fixture, while City supporters will have nowt but positivity going in to it. They have it to lose and we have everything to gain. Come 10pm Wed it could all be change mind you...

I don't know what nerves me more, tomorrows game or the FA cup game. Think the FA cup games nerves me more just as it's Sven and Darius will want to score.

And they will want revenge cos last time we played we effectively relegated them. I was there. :D

I also remember there was some screw up with, I think Tarnat got a red card, they were awarded a penalty and James saved it...it was a right mess. No one knew what was going on. Or was it Barton..?! Maybe Barton scored. Hmmmmm, memory aint all that.

I remember seeing them when Dicov made his return.
He scored a penalty in a 0-3 win. He went sliding on knees to the inbred bastards. Their fans thought it was funny to chant "There is only one city!".

Dicov came on to cheers from on and was subbed off to chants of "wanker!".

so long as we have 11 men on the pitch for more than 30 seconds then we have a chance

They reckon that when you're smiling the whole world smiles with you. I don't know what to make of that. Are they being genuine or sarcastic?

I can see this one turning out to be a bit of a shit game. Mancini was always gonna keep it tight (and rightly so), but with Ballers and Silva being unavailable our attacking and creative play will be restricted even more than usual. I expect to see the likes of Viera and Zabs feature heavily in this game, with no more than 2 goals being scored :8ball:
