Good point.

was wondering what the hold up is. does that mean lazio has upped their price after agreeing it, the player is haggling over pay, what?

They are just trying to get Luca Antonelli as his replacement.

I read earlier from the site Tuttomercatoweb.com, which is expected to close next Monday, then will travel to England for medical support

Roberto Mancini last night revealed that the Blues are ‘99% certain’ to sign Aleksandar Kolarov from Lazio.

And the manager confirmed too that the arrival of the Serbian World Cup star does not mean the end of the road at the club for Wayne Bridge.

“I want two top class players for each position,” he declared in the wake of the opening 2-0 defeat to Sporting Lisbon in the Barclays New York Challenge.

Twenty-four-year-old Kolarov has been granted a work permit but has yet to have a medical, the transfer could go through early next week.

Mancini has been tracking the versatile left sided player for some time.

“I first saw Kolarov in his Lazio debut back in 2007,” revealed the manager.

I was impressed by the speed and strength of someone so young

...Roberto Mancini on Kolarov...

He was composed on the ball had an excellent delivery with his left foot and was technically very able.

“I have watched him a lot since then and so have the Manchester City scouts. His attacking capability is very good. He is fast and can shoot with power and accuracy.

“He also has the ability to play in numerous positions and is very good in midfield. This is an additional benefit to the team. He has a fantastic international career ahead of him. I am looking forward to working with him.”

Is it safe to say that other than the loan of Vieira, this is Mancini's first signing of his own choice?

I think Garrrrrrrrry had been in discussions with Barca and Yaya long before Mancini turned up. Same goes for Valencia & Silva. With Boateng I suspect he was one that was on our radar from the time our scouts spent watching Kompany & de Jong at Hamburg.

With Kolarov though it seems like he's a player Mancini himself has been admiring for some time. I reckon this may be the first time Garrrry and Marwood have entrusted Mancini to spunk a bit of the Arab's cash.

The OS spelled 'deal' wrong (US Tour: Kolarov Deak is Done). They must have been really excited.

Why would you say that? What about Yaya, Boateng, and David Silva. It's his transfer wishlist and he's building his own team IMO.

Fair enough.

Bridge is gonna have his work cut out this season.

He got the nod to start at left back last night, and didn't look overlly special.

That's because he can't defend.
