Are we actually going to address the problems we've got in that area?? All we seemed to be linked to is strikers. Doesn't matter who we buy to play up front, if the service isn't there, they're on a hiding to nothing.

What type of players do we need to improve the midfield? And who are the realistic targets?

I think we need a back up to Hamman & Gelson, someone with the experience of Hamman and the energy of Gelson. I can see them sharing the role through the season but with Hamman probably only lasting another season we need someone to bed in for a season. No idea who though, Huddlestone maybe?

A right winger definately otherwise we're left with giving the ball to Petrov and him shooting off down the wing at 100mph, need some balance and something to give other teams to think about. There's obviously Bentley but he's probably off down south so maybe Lennon, Milner, Pennant, Benayoun or even Routledge but would we want any. You might notice that I can't be bothered thinking of any foreigners right now!

Creativity-wise there's obviously Johnson & Ireland. I'd maybe think about dropping Elano a bit further back and allow him to move around a bit like Fabregas finding the killer passes that unlock the defenses.

Apparently that Adam guy is next on the list - Hughes was aware of him when he was Blackburn manager, even I know we need a right winger, STAT

Looking at the striker situation it seems a good bet to me that it will be two up top, rather than the lone front man. Surely it makes sense for Elano to play at the tip of a diamond, Petrov tearing up the left, which leaves in my eyes the need for a flyer on the right and a long term holding player sat in front of the centre backs, that will allow the full backs to raid down the flanks too and give as many chances as possible to the front guys.

So who do we need?

Left back / Wingback - Said it before Zhirkov would be my shout.

Holding player - ? Can Gelson do the job there given another season understudying Didi? Or do we break the bank for a Mascherano or Yaya Toure kind of player, no idea who though as those two are unlikely to be available.

Right Winger - Quaresma (can switch sides if needed) SWP, Lennon, Pennant.

just noticed schweinsteiger takes his free kicks with his right foot. i thought he was a left winger? he could solve our problem on the right side.

no he's definitely right footed, good player but i think of him as being a bit of a twat for some reason.
