Games quite often do. I have a feeling it was the same with that Sevilla player, and also that guy in Eastern Europe who smacked his head of the concrete barrier at the edge of the pitch.

That was fucking horrible, can't believe they played a professional football match with concrete blocks set back 2 metres from the pitch. Beggers belief.

Puerta ended up walking off the pitch I think, only to collapse later so that's a bit different.

It didn't. The Cameroon players were sick with worry but I don't think they knew exactly what was going on and he didn't die until some time after the match had finished.

He was declared dead shortly afterwards, but I think he may have died on the pitch.

The game was stopped, though the tournament continued.

He was alive when he reached the medical centre but was declared dead 45mins after he collapsed.

They did indeed continue the tournament but only after long deliberations and only because MVF's family wanted them to continue.

Alright folks..

I thought he died on the pitch too..
Until the details came out..
But not at the time, i thought he'd be ok..

The one who did die one the pitch is Miklos Feher..
Thats horrible, the lad is smiling at the ref, and then collapses..

My thoughts on marco, is that even though he was not a city player, just on loan, did not matter.
Its the fact he was a dad of 3, and one was 8 months old, thats why it did my head in so much at the time.
And i suppose cos i went to maine road too, and it was pretty high emotions, and being the hard faced twat i am, i kinda crumbled a bit....

Im glad we retired the number..its just a mark of respect ..

Just mentioned that in the Confeds thread, his Dad would be so proud of him and rightly so. Lovely Tribute.

Yes it was really touching. His dad was a lovely gentle man...he helped a charity i am involved with at the drop of a hat and couldnt do enough for us....great guy and a true professional.
