Mark Hughes intends to give further first team opportunities to players from City’s Youth Academy.
The manager is still only a couple of days into his new job, but sitting down with Academy Manager Jim Cassell will be one of his top priorities.

The reputation of the Academy, from which 26 players have moved into the first team so far, was underlined last season when the Under 18 side beat Chelsea to bring the FA Youth Cup back to the Club, and Hughes says:

“City’s Academy is renowned right through the league, the quality of players they have produced is on a par with anybody. Its on a par with anybody, in fact it surpasses most other Academies at Premier League level, and that is something we have to cherish & nurture.

“We want it to keep producing the quality of player that have the capability to play at Premier League level for Manchester City.

“I have not had the opportunity to meet Jim Cassell yet, but that’s one of my priorities. I want to speak to him and find out about the players that he feels have the necessary quality to keep progressing. That’s a meeting I want to have in the near future.”
