Damaged goods IMO, if he stays fine, I'll cheer him on when he plays well, but that's it, it's over. Wait and see my arse, wait and see who puts in a bid more like!
As I said......fuck'im.

He's our captain and I still have faith in him. Reminds me of when Gerrard put in a transfer request after they won the Champs league. He was just looking for a bit of reassurance. That's Dunney. He just needs a hug.

Hughes: I want Dunne to stay

13/06/2008 15:17

City boss Mark Hughes is confident that skipper Richard Dunne will shortly put pen to paper on the new contract offered to him by the club.
Dunne, voted as the Blues’ Player of the Year for the last four seasons, has been offered a deal that would put him into the highest earning bracket at City.

After speaking to Dunne this week, Hughes is hoping that everything will be resolved very shortly, and he exclusively told MCFCTV.com:

“I’ve spoken to Richard, he’s on holiday abroad at the moment but I’ve had a discussion with him and I’ve told him my feelings on the situation. Obviously I’m very keen for him to remain at the club, and we’re working in that direction.

“It’s a little bit difficult because he’s away at the moment, but I’m sure that when he’s back this will be resolved very quickly.

“We have offered Richard a substantial deal, there may be more negotiations to be done but I am very hopeful that he will continue to be a Manchester City player.”

The pair played alongside each other at Everton in 2000, so the Manager is well aware of the skipper’s qualities.

“I played alongside him, and even though it’s a while ago now I know his qualities very well. He’s been outstanding at City, he’s key to what we are trying to do here and if we can, we’ll make sure we do everything we can to keep him.”

And does Hughes think that the Republic of Ireland international is underrated outside of the Club?

“I think so. He does not shout about himself from the rooftops, he does not do that much press apart from what he has to as our captain. There are some players out there who promote themselves more but the key is what you do on the pitch, and he has been outstanding in that respect.”

I think Dunne truly wants to stay but with all the Sven going ons and also when Richards contract was rumoured to be 45k to 50k in such a time when Richards is at the start of his career then Dunne probably thought he was worth the same, if not more on todays market, hes been the fans player of the year for the last 4 years, this has got to mean something with regards to his last big contract, Mcmanaman and fowler were reportly on over 50k along with Danny mills, so on basis that I think Dunne is worth at least what Richards is supposed to be on.

Dunne seems settled in the North west, hes got married and has a daughter, hopefully the dark days of reports of being late for training after heavy drinking sessions are well over and behind him, Dunne signing is more important to the team than the sigining of Ronaldinho (merchandising reasons). hes the back bone of our team, so I say sort out the contract and keep our most consistent player in the last 5 years at our club.

I'll be disappointed if he leaves due to reasons relating to money because hes just one of those players that the team looks up to and the fans look to for a good performance day in day out playing with his heart on his sleeve.

However if he does leave i dont think it'll bother me a great deal in terms of finding a player up to his standard, as we could quite easily fork out a couple of mill more on top of his transfer fee received and buy a player as good as Charlie.
