Didnt even know he was released.

Reports in the press linking Manchester City's released Belgain forward Emile Mpenza with a move to Ipswich Town just won't fizzle out.

Both the national tabloids and Belgian reports have been busy linking Mpenza with Ipswich which makes Mpenza seem a likely target for Jim Magilton who is keen to bring in a top-class striker.

Ipswich Town were understood to be interested in the former Hamburg and Schalke in Januaury but a loan move could not be agreed between the two clubs.

not prolific but he did a decent job running around and winning headers as a lone striker. i dont think he is good enough if we want to move forward but he's better than the championship.

True, and he did a great job for us at the end of season 2006/2007.

contract runs out end of this season
The experienced Belgian international striker joined City in February following a spell playing in Qatar for Al Rayyan.

Capped 52 times by his country, Mpenza had two spells at Standard Liege and has also had three years in the Bundesliga for Schalke 04, bagging 28 goals in 79 appearances.

Was offered a deal with City until the end of the season after impressing in a specially-arranged game behind closed doors at the City of Manchester Stadium.

Emile made his City debut as a second half substitute at home to Wigan on March 3, a first start came against Chelsea and his first goal followed in the next match against Middlesbrough, where a quick turn of pace and good finish meant City went home with the points in a 2-0 win.

Two more goals followed before the end of the season, and Emile's sterling efforts, often as a lone striker, were rewarded with a permanent contract that he signed just before the Premier League campaign drew to a close.
