Manchester City are set to complete the surprise signing of the former Ipswich Town goalkeeper Richard Wright on a free transfer.
Wright, who was released from a one-year contract at Preston in July, is understood to have agreed a one-year deal at City to become their third choice behind the England No1 Joe Hart and the Romanian Costel Pantilimon.
The 34-year-old, who was part of England's Euro 2000 squad, joined Arsenal in 2001 but struggled for consistency. He then went on to play for Everton, West Ham United, Southampton and Sheffield United, with two more spells at Ipswich.
The Ipswich-born player ended his Preston contract citing homesickness.
