Real Betis have made an official offer to take Nery Castillo on loan with a view to buying him for €10million next summer and are waiting for a response from Shakhtar Donetsk.

The Andalucian outfit want the Mexican frontman to help revive their fortunes after three seasons of struggle and hope to wrap up a deal for a new striker quickly, according to AS.

Castillo is currently in the middle of a 12-month loan spell at Manchester City, but it is believed that neither the Premier League club nor Shakhtar would have any problem ending that agreement.

Part of the package offered by Betis is €2million to borrow the 24-year-old next term and then have a clause inserted in his contract that gives them first option to buy him next year.

During the last winter transfer window, Castillo is reported to have paid half of the loan fee to join Manchester City because he was so keen to try his luck in England.

But in his first six months in the Premier League, the former Olympiakos forward failed to impress and played just seven games without scoring for City.

Now Betis believe that they can fulfil his potential and have put him in a similar bracket to other great Mexican players such as Hugo Sanchez, Rafael Marquez or Negrete.

Coach Paco Chaparro has stated that his club need to sign more players unless they want to endure another campaign of struggling against the drop and would view Castillo as a step forward.

Galatasaray target Milan Baros has also been offered to the club by Lyon, but Betis will only consider taking up that option should they fail with their other plans.

Would not be a bad thing and clear some wages!!

He is on a year long loan. But its clear he is not going to play and that we will never sign him permanently. Just not a Hughes type of player.

It makes sense for all parties that he goes to spain and trys to get his career back on track. Shame as he looked a decent player and was unlucky to get injured when he came to us. Its just not worked for him and we should move him out. Hes on big wages and we have decent cover in that area anyway. No point in keeping players that Hughes is not going to play he hasnt featured at all in pre season really.

I think he is a bit like Beasley. A good player, quick and skillful, just too lightweight for the prem, gets muscled out too easily.

He will do well in Spain though.

Very true, cos Beasley does well in Scottish league.

Not as physical as the Prem.
